Urban Vision are looking to appoint a Building Surveyor. Responsible to the Principal Building Surveyor the post holder will provide a professional surveying service to our clients across the North West region.

The Company

Urban Vision is a Joint Venture Partnership between Capita, Salford City Council and Galliford Try. We are based in Swinton, within the Salford district of Greater Manchester employing approximately 350 staff in a wide range of integrated professional support services solutions.

Capabilities include a full range of property surveying and management disciplines, full design and cost control services, extensive highways and civil engineering design capability plus Town Planning, Development Control and Policy Services.

Based in Swinton, Salford, our key Client is Salford City Council although we have expanded our client base to a number of other Clients and Commissions both within the North West and nationally.

The turnover for the current year is forecast to be in the region of £35m across the eight individual Business Units (Profit Centres).

Regions Division

Since 2001 Capita - Property and Infrastructure’s strategic partnerships have been transforming and improving the delivery of Local Authority services across the UK.

We are currently involved in eight such partnerships, many of them offering a full range of multidisciplinary and technical professional services to the partnering councils as well as the broader private sector market and even other Local Authorities.

The Role and Responsibilities

This role is for a Building Surveyor and they will be responsible for service delivery to a wide range of clients in designing solutions in the private, education and local authority sectors.

  • The successful candidate will be expected to;
  • Have responsibility for early stage design and feasibility work
  • Develop detailed briefs in conjunction with the client
  • Carry out detailed design work and prepare production information
  • Undertake the role of Project Manager
  • Administer building contracts act as Lead Discipline’ on programmed capital projects
  • Undertake all aspects of professional surveying work (including surveys, PW work, dilapidations, DDA & FRA’s)
  • Essential Criteria

    BSc in Building Surveying or equivalent

    Minimum 2-3 years post qualification experience within Building surveying environment (particularly within the Education sector)

    Ability to establish a good working relationship with Clients and colleagues

    Self motivated and able to work without supervision

    Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines

    Good communication and customer skills

    Ability to demonstrate flexible approach to work

    Ability to undertake pre and post contract control of building contracts under appropriate forms of contract in accordance with Quality Assurance procedures

    A knowledge of current legislation, e.g. Health & Safety, CDM, Building Regulations, SWMP, Planning

    Desirable Requirements

    Membership of the R.I.C.S. or C.I.O.B

    Experience in education, health and leisure projects

    Experience in private and local authority sectors

    Car driver with current driving licence. Experience in education, health and leisure projects

    Experience in private and local authority sectors

    Understanding of Academies Funding

    Use of NBS Specification Manager, MS Project, AutoCAD, REVIT
