    Job Overview

    The Mayor of London has a high-reaching programme to deliver anaffordable, accessible, safe and modern transport network to our city and itsvisitors.

  • Our Project Management team is responsible for delivery of thehundreds of projects and new initiatives that impact Londoners every day;
  • fromnew cycle lanes, upgrading train tracks and signalling systems, designing saferroad layouts to providing world-leading information and ticketing systems.

    Ourbusiness plans will make this programme a reality by increasing the capacityand stability of our network to cope with growing passenger numbers.

    It is anongoing balance between running the network and investing in it for the future.You will be a part of the team that delivers this investment programme toimprove the network which is vital in ensuring we manage modern demandseffectively on an ageing transport network, in order to keep London moving.

    What will I be doing?

    You will be supporting your project team in their day to day tasks butno two days would be the same! Depending on your project you could besupporting the identification and management of risks to your project, workingwith a planner ensuring the schedule is accurate, drafting a report to seniormanagement on progress as well as working with contractors and the deliveryteam to ensure that work is delivered on time.

    The teams you work in will bevarious sizes and multidisciplinary and everyone, including you, will have akey role to play.

    Here’san idea of what yours could look like :

    Year 1

    Placement 1 Surface Transport 6 months

    Understanding the operational business and the fundamentals of ProjectManagement in a large organisation with many different stakeholders.

    Placement 2 Major Projects 6 months

    You’ll gain stakeholder management experience with some of the biggesttransport contractors in the UK. You’ll support the Project Manager in contractmanagement, package handovers, assessing risks and managing the budget.

    Year 2

    Placement 3 London Underground 6 months

    You’ll gain a holistic understanding of the station, from power and signalling,to engineering and staffing, you’ll support the teams in seeking continuousimprovements to upgrade the networks.

    Placement 4 Technology and Data 6 months

    You’ll learn to consolidate and manage planning schedules, support thedevelopment of business cases for new projects so that the team can ensure theyreach financial targets whilst gaining exposure to different type ofengineering and technology projects.

    Where can this career take me?

    As an apprentice, you'll work towards a Level 4 Diploma in Project Managementby completing a portfolio of work, one exam and a professional discussion.

    Atthe end of the scheme, successful apprentices could progress into a ProjectCoordinator position, which could lead to further career progressionopportunities such as Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager and SeniorProject Manager.

    The Project Management community at TfL is made up of over1400 people, which, combined with the variety of our projects, creates hugescope for your professional development.

    What training and support will you get?

    Whilst on the scheme, we’ll support your technical development through awide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements.

    We’llalso support your professional development through a combination of classroom-ledtraining courses, online training courses, mentoring opportunities andstructured networking opportunities.

    You will receive one-to-one supportthroughout the programme from your scheme sponsor and your Line Manager. You’llalso be connected to a buddy’ who will be a more experienced apprentice fromthe scheme.

    Entry Requirements

    A minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade A* - C or Grade 4 and above, including Mathsand English Language, plus 2 A-Levels in any subject at grade A* - D orequivalent.

    You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or areworking towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a relatedsubject or have already studied content from the qualification for this scheme.

    You must be 18 years of age by 1st September 2019 to beeligible for this scheme.
