The Role

The CCTV Supporting Manager is a pivotal role within West Midlands Police.

  • You will provide day-to-day support to the Force CCTV Manager and manage multiple CCTV projects across the force area. This supporting role will also deputise for the Force CCTV Manager with various stakeholders;
  • including internal colleagues and external partner agencies.

    You will :

  • You will foster a culture of inclusion and be able to work effectively amongst a diverse team, creating strong engagement in order to meet performance objectives whilst embodying Force values and behaviours.
  • Administer and manage CCTV systems, providing training and access to users across the force.
  • Download CCTV footage for : Homicide investigations; Regional Organised Crime Unit and the Independent Office of Police Conduct.
  • Install new CCTV systems and CCTV systems to be removed from sites to be disposed.
  • Collate CCTV footage that doesn’t decode and liaise with the manufacturer to implement software upgrades to include new codecs.
  • Liaise for new feeds of CCTV and installation of supporting infrastructure across partner premises.
  • Project manage across WMP, external partners (Local Authorities), and agencies (Counter Terrorism, the National Crime Agency and other law enforcement agencies) relating to CCTV capabilities.
  • Manage capital / revenue budgets as it relates to CCTV capabilities.
  • Extensive stakeholder management capability to ensure the relationships across WMP, Local Authorities, Private Enterprise and Critical Agencies (Counter Terrorism and the National Crime Agency).
  • Create and maintain mapping database of CCTV local authority assets.
  • To keep abreast of technical advances, changes in legislation and working practices in order to inform the long term strategy for CCTV in force
  • Person Specification Essential :

  • Experience of CCTV technology to provide technical skills and knowledge that facilitate the security, integrity, performance and availability of CCTV infrastructure.
  • You will have the ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines, whilst being competent in the use of MS Office applications , specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • plus, have sound written, oral and presentation skills.

  • You will also have strong networking, engagement, persuasion, influencing and communication skills, with the ability to build effective collaborative relationships with a wide range of professionals within and around West Midlands Police and partner organisations.
  • Desirable :

  • A working knowledge of public space surveillance technology and local authority control rooms.
  • Experience of CCTV, including technology and Safer Detention guidelines.
  • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge in these laws. Home Office Surveillance Camera Commissioner’s Code of Practice and legislative requirements including : Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, Data Protection Act, Human Rights Act.
  • Additional Information

  • The post holder will be contracted to work 36.5 hours per week but will need to be flexible to meet the demands of the post, and may have to work outside normal core hours.
  • The post holder will need to have the ability to travel to different locations as required.
