We’re expanding our team and are seeking applications from highly motivated individuals for two Driver manager roles for our Aylesbury and Marylebone depots, who can help to support our vision to proudly deliver a world class railway.

The Role :
To lead the drivers and develop, implement and maintain train operating standards in order that reliability and punctuality targets are met.
Ensure that all appropriate policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to and all such activities comply with the relevant sections of the Safety Management System, the current HSQE Plan and any applicable Railway Group Standards.
To work under your own supervision liaising with Driver Managers at all other locations with regard to any operational or assessment implications.

Key Responsibilities :
Directly manage the competence, welfare, attendance, discipline, assessment and coaching of your team of drivers.
Monitor the basic and enhanced training of drivers ensuring that competency standards are fully met.
Ensure that trains are driven in a safe and efficient manner, operating standards are complied with and customer care standards are met.
Carry out regular competence and performance assessments, including the examination of newly appointed drivers.
Fully investigate safety of the line incidents and accidents and make recommendations on improvements and prevention. Ensure that all such matters are properly reported in line with statutory or railway operating requirements and also that the necessary reports are fully completed and submitted within the agreed timescales.
Maintain own driving competency and when necessary, accompany or act as a conductor to another driver.
Undertake cost control exercises in connection with payroll costs, uniform and equipment to ensure that the operations department budgets are not exceeded.
Be aware of short-term contingency rostering of drivers, liaising with the resource manager and local controllers to ensure that resourcing complies with the train service specification.
Check and arrange for delivery of weekly operating notices including London Underground traffic circulars.
Monitor all notice cases at depots as necessary and post SPAD, traction, train crew and new notices at unsupervised depots and monitor this at supervised depots.
Ensure new drivers complete a Training Needs Analysis on joining Chiltern Railways and endeavour to have them fully productive within the agreed timescales.
Ensure return to work’ interviews are carried out as soon as is practicable on individuals’ return.
Implement decisions and action plans as determined by the Depot Managers.
Comply with the requirements of the Chain of Care Procedure.
Comply with the contents of the Driver Manager Safety Responsibility Statement
Accompany the Depot Managers on home visits in connection with sickness or post incident operational incidents.
Ensure that daily and weekly standards checks are carried out for all drivers based at your depot in accordance with the Chiltern Railways Train Crew Depot Standards procedures.
Manage the housekeeping of the Driver Managers’ accommodation and facilities.
Ensure that Driver Manager coverage is provided during Public Holidays and on call requirements are covered.
Ensure that all drivers based at your location have signed for weekly, periodical and all operating notices and take remedial action when this is not done.
Manage the distribution and signing of any new publications and amendments to publications and maintain an accurate up to date audit trail.
Maintain a good working relationship with trade union officials and representatives.
Provide on call cover for fatalities, Signals Passed at Red to due signaller intervention (formerly Category C SPaDs) and safety of line incidents
