Applicants are invited to apply for the position of Recovery Team Leader within the Theatre suite of Walsall Manor Hospital.

The theatre suite consists of 14 theatres with the following specialities : -

Colorectal, Orthopaedics & Trauma, Urology, Bariatric, Breast, Gynaecology, Ear Nose & Throat, Pain Therapy, Emergency & Maternity theatres.

We are looking for highly professional, motivated and experienced individuals to undertake this role. Providing support and dealing with day to day issues independently.

The applicant should be a team player and exceptional at organisational and time management. The applicant should be able to work to tight deadlines and prioritise under pressure.

You will engage with staff at all seniority and therefore will need to demonstrate effective influencing and persuading behaviours to ensure that the team’s objectives are met.

Main duties of the job

To ensure safe and effective clinical practice.

Practice within an ethical framework based upon respect for the well-being and safety of patients and clients.

To be responsible and professionally accountable for the assessment of care needs; development of personalised plans of care, implementation and evaluation of care without supervision.

Lead a team and co-ordinate the theatre in the absence of the Clinical Speciality Manager and reinforce the values and standards of compassion, dignity and respect in care, leading the delivery of clinically excellent care.

Ensure the planning and delivery of care is aligned to professional values of care, compassion and respect, act as a change agent, developing clinically effective practice through the effective utilisation and integration of evidence based practice.

Support the Clinical Speciality Manager in ensuring a culture of protecting patients from harm and deprivation of basic rights ensuring a safe and effective service with continuous quality improvement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Be professionally accountable and maintain the standards of professional practice as set by the appropriate regulatory body applicable to your profession or role.

Deliver compassionate person-centred care, and treat patients, service users with consideration, dignity and the respect you would want for yourself or your family.

Support and deputise for the Clinical Speciality Manager in ensuring the standards of professional practice as set out by appropriate regulatory body applicable to your profession or role are maintained.

Utilise clinical proficiency in delivering a high standard of care. Provide managerial and leadership skills to support the Clinical Speciality Manager and team to deliver continually improved standards and efficient and effective use of resources.

Be responsible and accountable for the assessment of care needs the development of plans of care, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.

Participate in the teaching and supervision of nursing, ODP and non-nursing staff.

Be responsible and accountable for the management of patients on a theatre list and without supervision lead a team of Theatre Practitioners.

The post-holder will be designated to take charge of a theatre or appropriate area of responsibility in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility

Essential criteria

  • Relevant course- Perioperative Practice.
  • Essential criteria

  • Relevant Clinical course - determined at local level i.e. ENB 183 or equivalent
  • Essential criteria

  • Significant experience at Staff Nurse level, with experience in Recovery.
  • Essential criteria

  • Experience of undertaking role of either / or mentor / preceptor / clinical supervisor
  • Essential criteria

  • Must demonstrate a contribution to a development within the clinical area
