Job Title : Research and Development Scientist
Hours : 35 hours per week

As a Research and Development Scientist you will be responsible for assisting with the development, validation and implementation of Sanger Sequencing / Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) / Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) within SGS Vitrology.
You will be required to assist the Department Managers / Study Directors / Scientists in scheduling the department workload, ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with GLP and GMP.
Provide regular updates to Department Managers / Study Directors / Scientists regarding the status of ongoing projects and studies, including any deviations, non-conformances and out of specifications immediately.
Perform all laboratory work and data analysis and reporting in a timely manner and to a high standard, and in accordance with all relevant procedures, Study Plans and SOPs.
Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
Assist other Study Directors / Scientists in any investigation and / or corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs) processes as required and provide technical laboratory support in conducting investigations and troubleshooting.
Perform all relevant Quality Control checks in accordance with the requirements of GMP.
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with relevant health and safety procedures and that all risk assessments relevant to the work being performed (COSHH, GMO etc) are read and understood prior to undertaking work.
To prepare and or review documentation within areas relevant to your expertise.
To assist in generating relevant risk assessments within areas relevant to your expertise.

Scientific background and laboratory skills relevant to Sanger Sequencing and / or NGS in particular and general Molecular Biology (including Real Time PCR)
Good communication skills, verbal and written
Good interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team and interact productively and constructively with colleagues
Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline including practical laboratory modules (e.g. BSc Hons in a biological science)
Experience of working in a GLP / GMP environment, or equivalent
Writing and word-processing skills
Higher degree, e.g. PhD, in relevant discipline
