The role holder is a senior member of the Group Underwriting Management function and will work under the direction of the Group Underwriting Controls Manager.
The role will help embed MS Amlin’s underwriting culture, standards and philosophy across MS AUL, ensuring that each of the SBUs is operating in accordance with these principles.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage a team to assist with the production and management of MS Amlin’s Underwriting Control Framework.
This includes assisting with the production of MS Amlin Underwriting Policies, Standards and Controls and assessing cross-
SBU compliance. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance to MS Amlin underwriting and governance, as well as all relevant regulatory controls for MS AUL.
Where areas are identified that fall below MS Amlin’s expectations and / or where underwriting performance falls below the level expected this role will be expected to challenge and help SBUs put in place plans to remediate.

4. The Operating Environment and Context of the Job
MS Amlin operates within highly regulated business environment which requires that the underwriting units are appropriately monitored and that consistent standards are met.
MS Amlin intends that each SBU is capable of managing itself, in accordance with the agreed underwriting standards and philosophy and within a clear control framework, however the Group Underwriting Management function sets the framework and ensures that it is being adhered to.
SBUs have been delegated underwriting responsibilities from MS Amlin’s Legal Entities however the Group Underwriting Management Function acts as a key business partner in ensuring targets set are appropriate and sufficient oversight and challenge exists.
5. Key Competencies : Generic
Minimum of 5 years of experience in an insurance or reinsurance environment. Preferably with exposure to Underwriting Controls or Compliance
Demonstrate a clear understanding and knowledge of the Lloyd’s insurance market
Understands and applies the appropriate legal principles and procedures
Experience managing others in a similar role is preferable.

7. Key Interfaces :
The role will involve interaction with the SBU’s and primarily with Underwriters and Underwriting Managers. Additionally it is important that there is good interaction and excellent communication with MS Amlin Risk, Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit and other Functions as necessary.
