Job Description

Responsible for managing the procurement requirements of indirect purchases with a focus on  capital expenditure and large projects and programmes. A strategic role which establishes the Procurement and Sourcing strategy ensuring a commercial advantage to MADG.  

Increasing commercial awareness at a working level within the Company through interaction with other key functional areas and Business units.

To protect the company’s commercial position at the same time ensuring the company is not exposed to potential liabilities or legal issues arising from its procurement activities.

  • Liaise with a wide range of internal stakeholders to provide Procurement support ensuring that contract and commercial requirements are met within budget.  

  • Set Procurement strategy and approach for major expenditures and klad negotiations with suppliers for significant value of purchases.

  • Reduce cost and increase value within the procurement process, ensuring the highest standards of quality are achieved.

  • Create open, co-operative strategic relationships with key preferred suppliers, where appropriate.

  • Procurement Management input as required, such as lower tier pricing, advice on strategy, risk management, terms of purchase, flow down of customer requirements etc

  • Raise purchase orders and/or tailor contract terms and conditions documents as appropriate.

  • Represent the Purchasing department and the Company in a consistent manner, acting always in accordance with recognised ethics, statutory regulations, and Company procedures.

  • Communicate effectively both internally and externally.


  • MCIPS/Degree preferred

  • Knowledge of the latest thinking and approaches to Procurement in multi-functional organisations.

  • Previous experience in a multi category business would be preferred

  • Strong knowledge of contracts and contract management is required, with a good understanding and previous experience of NEC3/4, JCT type contracts

  • Previous experience of Construction, Civil Engineering and Site maintenance is preferred.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement, management and governance

  • Strong Project management skills

  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills

Due to the nature of our business, all employment is subject to satisfactory references being obtained, attainment of either a SC (Security Check), Disclosure Scotland Criminal Record Check or Foreign Police Check (whichever is applicable depending on duration of UK residency) and, as applicable, a medical assessment. Access to US technical data by employees requires prior Trade Control function approval. Clearance must be carried out against all applicable US export control authorisations.
