Common Purpose is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1989 that develops leaders who can cross boundaries. This enables them to solve complex problems both in organizations and in cities.
We deliver face-to-face and online leadership courses for multiple generations of leaders : from students in universities to senior leaders in organizations and society, supporting them to develop the knowledge, skills and inspiration to cross boundaries and become more active and engaged citizens.

This is a crucial strategic role helping us to drive a new direction of design, at a critical stage of growth for the organization.
Working in our central design team you will work to develop and update a range of online and blended courses and modules for multiple audiences both nationally and globally (across different generations and sectors).
You will also support our Business Development teams as they spot new opportunities, designing interventions in collaboration for our partners / clients.
We are looking for someone experienced in the end-to-end learning lifecycle to help us to further develop our global learning and assessment courses as we grow our online portfolio.
You will be responsible for applying your digital learning skills and expertise to develop Common Purpose’s learning courses, with a significant focus on bite size and modular e-learning, how-to videos, self-paced learning guides, assessments, and other assets as needed.
You will be able to confidently use e-learning creation tools (especially Moodle) and who has a sound understanding of pedagogical theory and evidence.
We need an effective communicator to design resources and activities that faithfully reflect our learning aims and to advise and support teams to use relevant educational technology themselves, while always advocating for approaches that will maximise participant learning and engagement.
This role is a full time permanent role which can be based in either the UK / US / India or Singapore. You will have global flexibility in terms of geography, which is integral to this being a global role.
As our Instructional Designer you will :
Work with the People & Operations Director to shape our course development roadmap according to product, client, and partner needs
Apply instructional design principles to ensure the high pedagogical quality of programmes, modules and short courses offered both internally and in working with our business development teams in course development
Work in upskilling our sales teams in how we talk about design principles with potential partners / clients
Develop a portfolio of enablement content and projects, including bite size and modular online courses and tutorials (new and updates)
Work with internal teams in a collaborative, consultative fashion, helping them adapt or create content, activities and assessment that is suitable for online learning
Produce the digital learning content, including co-ordinating and producing video and voiceovers to accompany the content, where required
Devise and maintain learning paths for our online courses
Advise and provide guidance on improvements based on experience and user feedback
Work with the Marketing team and company brand guidelines to ensure all content meets our brand and messaging standards
Consult and support internal teams as required on bespoke enablement needs for clients and partners
You will bring the following experience with you :
A fluency in current learning technology and systems, ideally in a corporate environment
Skilled in instructional design and rapid e-learning authoring experience
Experience with authoring to produce high quality learning content
Skilled in designing and developing a range of creative online learning courses and assets including learning paths, how-to videos, online courses, self-guided activities
Experience in shadowing business development teams in sales contexts related to courses design would be an advantage
Training delivery and facilitation skills an advantage in classroom and / or virtual environment
Highly accurate with good attention to detail
Good time management and self-organization skills
Creative and innovative
Ability to manage and coordinate multiple development tasks at a time, including co-ordinating with multiple subject matter experts across multiple projects
Excellent written English, oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Able to articulate learning content in understandable and meaningful ways relevant for the audience
A collaborative team-player, while also able to work well independently
