We are currently recruiting for an Infrastructure Technical Lead End User to join our team.

This role is the lead technical resource for the End User domain within Group Infrastructure & Operations, reporting to the Senior Infrastructure Technical Lead

The role will require the post-holder to demonstrate exceptional technical knowledge and be the subject matter expert within GIO for the End User environment.

The position is within the Infrastructure Technical Lead team, providing technical assurance and direction, incident and problem management and managing technical risks for GIO Infrastructure services.

Job description

Infrastructure Services are key to the ability of Defra Group, its arms length bodies (ALB) and its end-users to perform every day activities, all of which have a large dependency on the End User domain.

The post-holder will be the driving influence of the provision of End User services ensuring their overall functionality and performance meet business requirements.

The post-holder will use their significant technical knowledge to ensure the End User technical environment is a robust, stable and secure platform for a wide range of services which underpin Defra’s IT provision.

The End User infrastructure services need to be fit for purpose, maintained, ensuring that changes do not adversely affect existing services, and that effective plans exist to address risks and weaknesses essential to avoiding failure, of which could have a significant impact to Defra operations and its public reputation.

The primary challenges for this role are to provide first class supplier assurance and have a strong grip on the technical landscape across the breadth of suppliers, supporting incident and problem management, and tracking technical risks ensuring appropriate mitigation plans are in place or that risks are escalated and understood for investment cases.

This will involve significant focus on both high and low level technical detail, working with Suppliers, Service Owners and Technical Architects.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Infrastructure Technical Lead this role will :

  • Provide supplier assurance across a complex multi supplier environment
  • Drive and influence the provision of End User services, to ensure overall functionality and performance meet business requirements
  • Ownership and management of End User services, such as desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, peripherals, monitors, barcode readers
  • Validate scope and design of IT solutions proposed by suppliers, in particular, integration with existing and planned IT environment and strategy, ensuring plans are kept within DEFRA’s agreed architecture landscape
  • Represent the Authority and provide technical advice during major incidents or significant problems to ensure suppliers’ resolution proposals are assured and cost-effective
  • Review proposed changes for technical impact, identifying and reviewing risk profile
  • Identify and track technical risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation plans are in place, or that risks are escalated and understood for investment cases
  • Keep up to date with industry trends, and challenge suppliers to ensure maintenance schedules and technology landscape reflect industry best practice and best value for the Authority
  • Work with the Architect function and suppliers to ensure current, holistic, technical roadmaps exist for the End User infrastructure service, including upgrades and refreshes, ensuring work is scheduled appropriately alongside other supplier technical roadmaps
  • Ensure GIO has an up to date understanding of the End User landscape, including obsolescence, licence expiries, resilience, vulnerabilities
  • Develop strong working relationships with all Technical Leads, Project Managers, Supplier Managers, Delivery Leads and GIO Process Owners to ensure the smooth running of services
  • Experience :

  • Significant technical experience managing the full breadth of End User infrastructure services to the level of MS MCSE or with equivalent experience
  • Supplier assurance within a complex multi supplier technical environment
  • Incident and problem management in a large and complex multi supplier environment
  • Internal and external stakeholder management
  • A solid understanding of Hosting and Connectivity environments
  • Effectively prioritising workload to align with the evolving business requirements
