What you’ll do
As the MBT Technician, you will ensure MBT operates within the requirements of the environmental permit and carry out operational Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) checks, reporting any findings to the Senior Technician and shift supervisor.
You will undertake daily monitoring of waste flows in order to prevent blockages and act promptly to reduce downtime and safety concerns.
You will proactively search for defects to ensure an optimum operating condition, reporting all findings accordingly, provide line management with specialist knowledge and hands-
on expertise rectifying and preventing problems such as equipment failure, material blockages and biological process inefficiencies and work safely within a team towards deadlines to ensure all daily cleaning tasks are completed to maintain operational performance.
The MBT Technician will also be responsible for identifying faults via the SCADA system and be familiar with the biological process and settings, maintain the daily operation of the mechanical and biological sections of the plant via SCADA and control settings for optimum performance, whilst drawing conclusions from past data and prepare for the daily startup and shutdown of the plant with the Senior Technician.
You will be expected to maintain a safe workplace through strict housekeeping standards, complete daily sampling of material output for quality control and undertake minor maintenance tasks as directed by the shift supervisor to reduce operational downtime.
You will be expected to alternate your shift pattern weekly, between the 2 operational shifts 06 : 00-14 : 00 and 13 : 45-21 : 45.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) Technician to join our team at Veolia’s Integrated Waste Management Facility in Southwark, London.
The MBT is an innovated design bringing mechanical pre-treatment and composting technologies together treating 87,500 tonnes of Municipal Solid Waste per year.
The facility focuses on bio stabilising the waste and manufacturing 2 types of waste-derived fuel products used to generate electricity.
One is an organic-rich renewable biofuel and the other is a high energy content plastic rich fuel used to reduce fossil fuel use in energy generation.
The facility also removes up to 5% recycling from the waste for further processing into new products.
You will report to the MBT Supervisor and be responsible for mechanical and biological inspections and monitoring within the MBT, taking a lead with group cleaning tasks and covering the SCADA responsibilities in the absence of Senior Technician.
Experience you will need
You will possess good leadership and people skills as well as being a good team player. You will cope well in a fast pace, pressured environment and have great problem-
solving skills. Previous experience with Health & Safety exposure would be an advantage and higher education or equivalent within a related sector is desirable for this role.
You will be a strong communicator and have a high work ethic with the desire to continually improve, MBT and / or IVC experience or a sound knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques gained in a fast-
paced production process environment is an advantage and a mechanical understanding is required, ideally electrical bias.
A Biology and / or Chemistry background is desirable along with being IT literate : Excel Word, SAP, Sharepoint, SCADA. Knowledge of Environmental compliance would also be an advantage.
