In this role, you will work on Firecracker 1 , an open source virtualization technology that is purpose-built for creating and managing secure, multi-tenant container and function-based services that provide serverless operational models.

Firecracker is already the deployed globally as part of AWS Lambda 2 and AWS Fargate 3 , and is also integrated by 10+ teams beyond AWS as part of their platforms 4 .

Firecracker has an ambitious multi-year roadmap of tackling impactful and interesting opportunities in the quickly expanding ephemeral compute space - come help us make history!

  • Your main goal will be to create long-term customer value. You will : work to understand our customers' needs and engineer new features to meet them;
  • own and automate operations; contribute new ideas and methods to continuously improve quality and development efficiency;
  • innovate in the area of ephemeral compute platforms; and be a maintainer of the Firecracker open source project. This position also involves on-call responsibilities, which is typically done once every 8 weeks.

  • Degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Interest, knowledge, and experience in the areas low-level software engineering and / or systems programming.
  • 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Proficient in the typical Linux toolbox of open source software development and administration tools.

  • 5+ years of industry experience focused in the areas of low-level software engineering and / or systems programming, for example with Linux, C, C++, or Rust.
  • Expert in Linux networking and OS internals.
  • Passionate about working in the open source community.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where engineers are owners.
