Why this role matters

It is responsible for providing strategic and financial analysis and advice in order to construct and shape commercial propositions and complex bids.

Winning and retaining profitable business across Wholesale key accounts on strategic deals is critical.

This role should :

  • Drive financial risk mitigation and management of key commercial issues
  • Positively influencing win rates and directly impact BT’s drive for profitable growth on the more complex deals
  • Financial leadership, having the ability to influence the bid support function, quality and accuracy of bid response
  • Be recognised as a trusted advisor to senior management and subject matter expert for bids
  • What you'll be doing

    Takes accountability for discreet and / or complex bids within the Mobile sector (or other sectors if required from time to time).

  • Identify, quantify and financial risk key input to the bid decision making process
  • Support and recommendations into customer negotiations
  • On time and accurate completion of the Finance briefing for the appropriate DOA sign off having applied the best practices
  • Assurance for the accurate completion of customer pricing sheets
  • Contribute to the production of Finance Schedules
  • Produce bid P&L and cash flow for Complex Network and Non-standard bids
  • Business case development for new product launches where appropriate (eg small cells, shared access)
  • Providing insight : Feed into the reporting / forecasting team for budgeting / forecasting purposes
  • Provide insight through research

  • Key decisions / recommendations :

  • Recommendation into the finance A’ (Wholesale FD)
  • Recommendation on win price and deal strategy (Channel Director, Wholesale MD, C&T Commercial Director)
  • Senior Stakeholders & Key influences :

  • Main decision stakeholders Account Directors, Channel Director, Wholesale MD, Wholesale FD, Wholesale Commercail Director, Enterprise CFO
  • Bid team stakeholders Account Director / manager, Sales Specialist, Solution Architect / Director, Programme Manager, PMO, Legal team, Technical Design Authority up to CTO
  • Customer stakeholders Procurement, Technology, Finance and Legal representatives, Procurement Consultants with purchasing power on behalf of the organisation
  • Business expertise :

  • Scenario and sensitivity modelling, assuring appropriate investment appraisal for BT
  • Assurance for the accurate completion of customer pricing sheets with ability to develop and own bespoke and / or complex pricing structures
  • Managing inputs from the bid team (Product, Technical, Service, Group finance, HR etc)
  • Influencing commercial deal strategy

  • Assist the commercial strategy on bids through scenario and sensitivity modelling, assuring appropriate investment appraisal for BT
  • Provides insightful recommendations to improve bid profitability
  • Identifies, understands and challenges the risks, assumptions, drivers and interdependencies.
  • Ensuring the investment appraisal model is on time, accurate and challenged, applying best practice (insight)
  • Assist with assurance for the accurate completion of customer pricing sheets with ability to develop and own bespoke and / or complex pricing structures
  • Managing inputs from the bid team (Product, Technical, Service, Group finance, HR etc.)
  • Assist with commercial deal strategy
  • Seek and obtain and finance derogations relating to contractual terms and conditions (e.g. OBA, Benchmarking, Audit)
  • Member of an accounting professional body e.g. ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA
  • Mandatory

  • Senior Stakeholder experience and working within matrixed environments. Experience of working with commercial and operational teams to deliver bid proposals and win deals.
  • Ability to interpret financials into meaningful insight, to inform decision making.
  • Ability to operate under pressure of deadline driven sales environment.
  • Be willing to voice an opinion and look at the art of the possible . Able to create a clear vision, delivering against key metrics
  • Demonstrates a high level of analytical capability
  • Preferred

  • Understands the Telecoms industry with good product knowledge.
  • A track record of effectively influencing the stakeholder requirements from both a BT or EE (company strategic priorities) and external perspective
  • To get involved and participate in external customer negotiation.
