In short, we’re on a mission to disrupt the outdated and ineffective world of corporate learning and help corporate learning teams overcome one of their biggest challenges holding every person in their organisation accountable for their behaviours and making sure change sticks.

We’ve just had our third consecutive year of rocket-fuelled growth and now we’re looking for a Product Design Engineer to join our product and engineering team.

About the role

As a Product Design Engineer at Hive Learning, you’ll lead shaped projects, big and small, from concept to release over six-week cycles.

You might be improving an existing feature, designing something entirely new.

You’ll be designing interfaces and experiences to solve problems outlined in a high level pitch that gives project teams autonomy to come up with the best solution.

You’ll have a lot of influence and impact right away.

Along with great visual and interaction design skills you will also be able to write your own HTML and CSS inside our React application, you’ll be working collaboratively with front and back-end software engineers who will support you with this.

You’ll also be advocating for high quality design and user experience standards and principals across our product and engineering team.

Part of which will include the building out our very own component library and design system - Nectar.

Here’s some of the things we’ve worked on recently to give you a taste of what you might be working on :

  • Creating a new way to allow learners to track actions they’ve picked up from the content they’re reading, so that they’re not easily forgotten
  • Improving acquisition by designing screens to allow group admins to customise invite messages, and schedule automatic follow up messages for those who miss the initial invite
  • Crafting messaging and interfaces displayed in Teams as part of our Microsoft Teams bot integration
  • Defining and building out new components into our component library after identifying some repeated concepts across the platform
  • Some words that might describe you, your skills and experience

    If any of these apply to you but you don’t have all the right skills, don’t let that put you off applying.

  • Designer who Codes : You are design focused but still like to write code to prototype and build out your ideas to get a feel for them early on in the process.
  • You know your way around HTML and CSS, and are comfortable with learning a bit of React. You might have been a designer or frontend developer in a previous role.

  • Detail Oriented : You have a keen eye for little details that make great user experiences tick, the things that no one else sees but make a big difference.
  • All driven by customer focus.

  • Autonomous Team Player : You can implement and deliver with a team without much guidance from above, but you know when to ask for support.
  • You're self-motivated, ambitious and resilient.

  • Problem Solver : You have strong problem solving skills able to break down and translate tricky complex challenges and come up with clean solutions
  • Communicator : You have strong written and verbal communication skills that are used for both communicating design decisions or trade-offs and for coming up with clear interfaces where expectations and functionality is clearly conveyed
