You will have ownership and responsibility for a set of products that help our colleagues to delight customers, across Logistics.

Bridging the technical and business worlds, you will work with colleagues across our businesses to develop and deliver your products’ roadmaps.

You’ll be someone who has experience in the definition and delivery of the systemic solutions for large-scale Logistics projects, someone who loves to make things happen and gets excited about identifying and delivering simple solutions to complex problems, at pace.

As a product owner at Sainsbury’s, you will be a key part of shaping the future of our organisation and the retail sector.

What I need to do

  • Work closely with our partners in Logistics to understand their needs and gather their requirements
  • Work alongside architects, project managers and engineers to design solutions that meet the needs of our Logistics partners and our colleagues love
  • Launch new products and enhance existing products
  • Develop the vision, strategy and roadmap for each of your products alongside the senior product owner
  • Deliver projects & sprints on your Logistics roadmap
  • Deliver ROI for investments in your products
  • Mentor and coach less experienced Product Owners
  • Provide digital product knowledge and insight for colleagues across our business
  • Support the execution of our Digital & Technology strategy

  • What I need to know

  • BA / BSc degree or equivalent practical experience
  • In depth knowledge of one or more of the major Warehouse Management System (WMS) solutions used across the Logistics industry (e.
  • g. JDA / Red Prairie, Manhattan)

  • A track record of delivering change in a Logistics environment
  • Experience in the definition and delivery of the solutions for large scale Warehouse Management System (WMS) projects and also preferably Warehouse Control System (WCS) projects
  • A track record of managing multiple stakeholders and strong examples of clear and concise communication
  • The ability to deliver cross-functional projects and a working understanding of both Agile and Waterfall project delivery methodologies
  • End to end product management experience preferable
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (incl. Excel modelling and analysis)

  • Good awareness of the range of Logistics technology solutions available in the market and what these could offer Sainsbury’s
  • Good awareness of the Warehouse Management (WMS) & Warehouse Control (WCS) system solutions available on the market and what these could offer Sainsbury’s
  • In depth knowledge of one or more of the major Warehouse Management System (WMS) solutions available on the market
  • Great communications skills with stakeholders at all levels
  • Highly analytical and methodical approach to problem solving
  • Commercial awareness
  • Great organisational and prioritisation skills

  • A passion for Logistics and for digital & technology
  • The ability to manage upwards, communicating clearly and influencing a broad cross section of stakeholders

  • Resources available to me

  • Working with the Senior Product Owner, you will coach and mentor less experienced Product Owners
  • You will have access to all the resources required to deliver projects as required (Waterfall or Agile) including : Project Managers, Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects, Vendor Supplier resource, Agile Scrum delivery teams and other D&T colleagues, together with access to broader resources across Sainsbury’s, and external sources
  • What decisions I can make

  • Making recommendations to the Senior Product Owner regarding product vision and roadmaps
  • Day-to-day project activity decisions for capital projects within your portfolio (typically up to c£5m, up to 3 yr projects)
  • Selection of project delivery methodology (Agile / Waterfall)
  • Resourcing on your change projects
