Chief Engineer is a still a young organisation, bringing together wide ranging skills and expertise. The Business Manager to the Chief Engineer will be accountable for the CE Office to ensure the MD is set up for success.

Chief Engineer is a dynamic business unit of Openreach, delivering services to communications providers across the UK and serving major corporate, business and government customers.
What you'll be doing
You will need a thorough understanding the business and the environment we operate in, you’ll be able to brief the MD on current issues, track actions, prepare the MD for key internal and external meetings that will include our customers, suppliers, our CEO and external regulator bodies respond to emails where appropriate and manage and resolve escalations.
By understanding the context, relationship and interdependencies of initiatives and issues you’ll be able to advise and inform to support the right decision.
You’ll also be engaging with and managing both internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the MD including customers, suppliers, regulatory and political bodies, Openreach CEO, Exec members and Openreach Senior Management Team (SMT) with the delegated authority to influence in the MD’s absence and with authority to pre-
empt & taking decisions on the MD’s work stack, business management projects, escalations and the Openreach Superstars recognition programme.
Strong Governance is critical in this role and you’ll ensure this is in place and maintained on behalf of the MD office by setting agendas and being part of Chief Engineer leadership team meetings, ensuring minutes are produced, and actions are owned and followed through to completion along with inputting into risk & performance discussions, including ownership of scorecard creation and reporting.
You’ll also provide direction and guidance, as needed, to the MD’s PA to ensure time is aligned to priorities and allocate work to business management analyst / graduate, ensuring they are fully utilized on value add work

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and manage strong stakeholder relationships quickly.
Evidence should be provided of personally owned and prepared presentations (e.g. operational reviews) for Director level consumption.
Highly structured and well-planned approach with the ability to adapt your plans to deal with ambiguity or change. Evidence of successfully building structure and plans from scratch in a complex and volatile business environment, demonstrating personal resilience and adaptability in the face of constant business, operational and customer demands.
Ability to operate in a high pressure / high visibility fast paced situation. Evidence should be provided of your approach to dealing with similar situations.
Ability to understand and translate analytical and complex messaging into a clear and concise story for a senior audience in either briefing or slide format.
Demonstrate absolute discretion when handling sensitive and confidential material.
Undergraduate graduate degree with a business / technical / professional qualification or equivalent experience.
