Job Description Summary

We are now seeking to hire a Principal Scientist to join the QC Team at our Centre of Excellence for biopharmaceutical process development and small-

scale GMP manufacturing in Slough, UK.

This is a new position with an important part to play within the team. As well as providing scientific leadership and direction in Biochemistry release and stability areas, you’ll be expected to provide analytical direction and technical support on customer projects and proposals.

Your work will be very varied. As the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and the custodian of our approach to analytical activities within these areas, you’ll have significant strategic input.

We’re very keen to exploit the potential offered by developments in technology (e.g., auto-ELISAs, auto-bioassays, etc.) and testing methods and techniques.

You’ll therefore be encouraged to investigate these and other opportunities as well as scrutinising and redefining existing policies and procedures to optimise efficiency and help us grow capacity.

We’re looking for someone who can really challenge the status quo, exercising all your expertise and bringing to bear all your experience and insight to create positive change.

We’ll also expect you to help us implement this so you’ll need to be able to demonstrate effective strategies for adopting these novel approaches.

Key responsibilities

  • Defining policies and procedures for analytical activities within Biochemistry release and stability areas through detailed understanding of analytical methods and regulations
  • Inputting into scientific and business direction of department
  • Providing knowledge of CMC requirements for biopharmaceuticals
  • Directing complex analytical studies if required
  • Troubleshooting issues on analytical studies
  • Reviewing and approving of protocols, reports, deviations, CAPAs, OOS and OOT investigations

    What we need you to have :

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific area : Biochemistry or Biological Sciences preferred
  • Extensive experience and expertise in the release and stability testing of biopharmaceutical products and biopharmaceutical analysis;
  • formal Quality Control (QC) experience, though not essential, is strongly preferred

  • Strong appreciation of cGxP disciplines underpinned by previous experience working in a cGxP environment
  • Ease with multitasking and prioritising
  • Proven ability to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Comfortable providing scientific and analytical direction to other colleagues
  • Rigorous, questioning mind-set, comfortable challenging - and being challenged as a basis for pushing back boundaries
  • A strong process mind-set, able to appreciate inter-dependencies and flows and an understanding of the factors which impact robustness
  • An effective communicator who is equally comfortable articulating objective facts as well as influencing others in the merits of your own argument.
