As the Group Compliance Operations Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Group Compliance and will be a key member of the management team within the General Counsel directorate.
You will be responsible for leading and managing a team of compliance professionals that scrutinise the activities of SSEs businesses in relation to assessing compliance with their regulatory and legislative obligations and in supporting them in their delivery of strategic objectives in a compliant manner.
This will involve developing and maintaining a strong understanding of multiple complex external regulation and legislation risks that apply to each of SSEs seven business units and assisting them in identifying associated compliance risks.
You will advise these businesses on the application of rules and obligations to ensure that appropriate systems and controls are in place to manage such risk to safeguard SSE from breaching its external obligations.
Managing and directing Compliance reviews, in accordance with the Compliance Monitoring Programme approved by the Group Executive Committee to enable early identification of non-
compliant practices, is an essential part of the role. Providing consultancy on the handling of compliance issues, development of appropriate processes and controls and the implementation of corrective actions are also key requirements.

The role gives high visibility, through regular communications with business directors and senior managers, and provides excellent routes for career progression within the SSE Group.
Your Skills and Experience
Experienced within a compliance or equivalent role, you will have a strong understanding of the GB and Irish energy markets, their rules and regulations as well as their regulatory and legislative influences.
You will also have a sound understanding of quality framework, lean methodology, assurance and productivity principles.
To aid identification of compliance risks and their materially across the group, this role will involve detailed analysis, scrutiny and management of significant volumes of audit outputs generated by the Group Compliance team.
You will, therefore, likely be degree educated in a management or process driven discipline, have significant experience of auditing business systems and controls, and will be able to demonstrate a strong ability to interpret and apply regulatory rules within an operational environment.
As an experienced manager, you will be a strong leader and will have proven experience of leading on the application of auditing techniques and / or process improvements within a compliance and regulatory environment.
Excellent report writing skills are crucial, as are good attention to detail, first class negotiation / influencing skills and being structured in approach and resilient in character.
An element of travel across the UK and Ireland will be required, so the candidate should preferably be able to drive.
