Engineering Manager - Seamanship

We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Manager Seamanship to join our team at our site in Glasgow.
Canada Programme - BAE Systems’ Global Combat Ship has been chosen as the design for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC), with the contract awarded to Lockheed Martin Canada by Irving Shipbuilding.
Irving Shipbuilding is the Canadian Surface Combatant Prime Contractor to the Canadian Government for the build of all 15 ships at its Halifax Shipyard.
As an Engineering Manager - Seamanship, you will manage the technical work and engineering aspects for various CSC systems which could include : arrangement of all Seamanship compartments, Anchoring, Mooring and Towing arrangements, Boat Davit & Side Door and Bulk Module Hatch, Boat facilities, Lifesaving Equipment, Guardrails & Stanchions, Upper deck life lines, Mission Bay Handling System, Mission Bay Side Doors and Replenishment at Sea.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on international programme, being involved in the design phase of the product where you will have a chance to input and influence the outcome with Longevity of the contract and opportunities for further career development.
The team are working with our customer in Canada, so a degree of flexibility will be required to overcome the time difference.
There may be some limited travel required to the Customer site in the future.
Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager - Seamanship will involve :
Ownership of Seamanship technical requirements and progressive acceptance activities
Managing the Seamanship domain change process and review of all Process Reviews
Close liaison with customers on all technical issues requiring their buy-in and acceptance
Attending at Project Assurance Reviews and associated Feeder Reviews
Rapid escalation of issues when necessary
Engineering approval of all Seamanship technical specifications
Engineering approval for design disclosure, engineering interfaces, safety, materials and software for area of responsibility
Participating in key engineering reviews
Your skills and qualifications :
Marine shipbuilding experience is required preferably in defence with a good understanding of maritime design, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, integration and testing lifecycle and processes
Broad knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines, standards and codes of practice
Experience of risk identification, mitigation and management
Previous management or team leader experience essential
Degree qualified in related marine engineering subject
Working towards or willing to achieve chartership preferred
