Our community midwives are a close-knit team led by an award-winning leader. In 2018, our team leader won the Nurse / Midwife of the year at our excellence awards which is a testimony to how much the team value her guidance, support and leadership.
Our community patch is based in the heart of London. It covers Barbican, Camden, Islington and Soho which are some of the most attractive places in London as they have great transport links and are a cultural hub.
The community currently provide antenatal and postnatal continuity working on a shift basis which reduces the number of on-
calls expected and ensures all skills are kept up to date. Our midwives value this way of working as it offers them a work-
life balance, learning opportunities and the guarantee of unsociable hours pay.
We promote normality, have a rising number of women seeking to use our birth centre and have increased local home birth numbers.
We aim to deliver high quality and safe care at all times.
Whilst we are hoping to attract midwives to our community, our posts at this level are rotational to give experience in all areas of the service, and to ensure that all midwives grow and maintain their full range of clinical skills and technical knowledge.
Midwives who join this team will have the opportunity for clinical rotation into all areas of our maternity service over time, to maintain and develop their wider clinical skills including an opportunity to work in a case loading team.
