The Role

As a result of this framework win, we are recruiting a Senior Drainage Engineer.

In this role you will work within the Highways and Designated Funds Design team and alongside our client, National Highways.

As a Senior Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of highways drainage schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers.

This is an opportunity to join a newly formed team working on National Highways schemes for the Midlands and South-West regions.

With shared office space in Birmingham, Nottingham, Kettering, Telford, Bristol, Saltash, Exeter and Warrington, we welcome applications from Drainage Engineers across these regions.

We are able to support flexible working around our core hours of 10-3pm and anticipate a mix of home / office working.

We strongly encourage the development towards a professional qualification with a recognised Institution and pride ourselves on mentoring engineers.

We offer tailored support towards professional accreditation (IEng / CEng), and you will be rewarded with a bonus of up to £5k on completion

In a typical week :

  • Lead on the delivery of scheme design, as well as providing support to the Design Team Leader within the design team on various design duties including :
  • Surveys / Inspections
  • Feasibility and other technical reports
  • Planning, programming and cost estimation
  • Design production
  • Production of design schedules
  • Reviewing and amending design drawings
  • Production of Specifications
  • Supporting development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians
  • Work to programme to deliver specified designs on time
  • Drive effective health and safety practices within your team
  • Liaise with the Client and our Community partners to ensure solutions that are developed are suitable for buildability and maintainability
  • Prepare technical reports (e.g. Feasibility / Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports)
  • Represent the business stream in multi-disciplined project teams
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the client and other relevant stakeholders

  • Ensure innovation and best practice is highlighted and adopted where practicable
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant technical standards
  • Carry out site surveys, inspections and supervision of junior colleagues on site
  • Keep up to date with your own personal development to ensure the natural growth of the team
  • We want to hear from you if :

  • Developed experience and expertise within Highways / Civil engineering, probably gained in a Designer / Engineer role or equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge of drainage design processes and procedures relevant to the civil engineering discipline
  • An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound Highways engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
  • Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
  • Experience in the application of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
  • You are happy to agree a programme of actions towards successful achievement of industry recognised qualifications, ie Incorporated or Chartered Engineer with a relevant body
  • Good commercial awareness and knowledge of budgets and programmes
  • Minimum level 4 qualification in an appropriate subject ideally Bachelor or Master degree
