Job Description

We are now looking for a highly qualified and passionate Legal Director to continue to lead and drive the UK Legal function as we bring our new and innovative products to market.

As the UK Legal Director you provide thought leadership in substantive legal areas and utilise high-level expertise in those areas to influence the business within the company.

You will also influence and train other Legal colleagues in relation to substantive legal areas. You shall lead the Legal function for the UK Pharmaceuticals business and ensure close team collaboration with key stakeholders internally and externally and add value to the business and the Legal function through defined enterprise wide responsibilities at the country level.

Your responsibilities :

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Leading the Legal function in the country and contribute to the development of the business strategy.
  • Providing pro-active substantive legal counsel to senior management and the Legal function across the Pharmaceuticals business and related units and, as needed, across all UK businesses within the country-Identify legal framework developments within the country and guide the Cross-Divisional Legal group within the country.
  • Providing legal leadership across the businesses and country, as needed, by providing pro-active, in-depth, business focused advice and counsel.
  • Counselling senior-level executives and business teams within other functions on complex and sensitive legal and business issues, interact with other functions within Novartis providing strong business partnering and training, and lead or contribute to both formal and informal teams in provision of legal expertise.
  • Anticipating and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current laws relevant to own substantive area to provide strategic advice and foster compliance.
  • Leading the development of and counsel on appropriate Novartis policies in connection with substantive legal matters.
  • Assessing legal capabilities, resources and the organisational model at the country level and support the businesses and units in making improvements, where necessary.
  • Driving cross-unit Legal talent development, alignment of key legal topics and collaboration across the Legal function at the country level.
  • Leading, direct and develop the Legal function within the Pharmaceuticals business and collaborate with the other businesses to ensure appropriate development of the Legal function across the country.
