The Role / Position Overview
Partnerships are a central part of the FT's growth strategy. Partnerships development and strategy is a high-profile, international function led by an FT board member and former managing editor, James Lamont, and reports to the CEO and Editor.
The new role is responsible for identifying, supporting and executing the FT’s innovative, high growth initiatives. These combine Editorial, Commercial and Technology elements across the FT Group.
One of the key partnerships is with the FT's owner, Nikkei Inc.
Strategic partnerships aim to accelerate growth and promote journalistic excellence, while building the FT's profitability and supporting its values.
The Strategic Partnerships Operations Manager will have significant exposure to many strategic projects and to the FT Board.
We are seeking an innovative, creative, analytical and strategic thinker who demonstrates high energy and a passion for the future of the media business.
The ideal candidate enjoys spotting opportunities, developing capacity, project management and top levels of governance and implementation.
They must be able to take direction but also be proactive and able to work under their own initiative in collaboration with others.
The role will involve significant exposure to the FT’s senior Editorial leaders, the FT’s senior management group and the corporate development team.
The ability to establish credibility and agility among senior management to accomplish goals is essential.
Key characteristics for the right candidate are : focus, tenacity, the ability to prioritise, responsiveness, decisiveness and a positive, can-do’ attitude.
A publishing background is preferred.
The role operates within a coherent, outward-facing operational framework to pursue opportunities for the FT Group in support of the FT / Nikkei business plan.
It encompasses origination, technical analysis and due diligence, negotiation and activation of growth projects across the FT Group.
Goals include quicker decision-making, shorter negotiating periods, slicker execution and stronger internal buy-in and onward project ownership.

The Manager will be supporting the Director of Strategic Partnerships with :
Project managing existing partnerships across a range of disciplines to create tangible value
Working centrally on the partnership between the FT and its owner Nikkei Inc
Writing board-level proposals and summaries. Preparing presentations.
Required Skills / Experience
Familiarity with financial modelling, performance metrics and legal documentation
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
