Markets is enhancing its first line of defense supervision and governance over Model Risk. Additional capacity is needed to implement and perform centralized controls and control monitoring of the risk of inappropriate use of models owned by Markets.

Markets Valuation Risk Control is part of Markets Risk and Controls, which establishes and maintains a robust 1st Line of Defense control environment and culture to minimize operational risk within the business.

Markets Valuation Risk Controls sets the standards for the quality of Front Office management of valuation risk, manages implementation of those standards and is responsible for Markets wide governance of 1st Line valuation risk.

This role will assist in the development of enhanced Front Office controls with respect to Model Risk. The scope of responsibilities extends across Markets globally with particular focus on controls over models used in the valuation of financial instruments.

This role will have responsibility for key front office controls relating to risk emanating from the use of models. The role will involve engagement with senior Markets traders, quantitative analysts, business managers as well as Model Risk Management.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Design and implement enhanced centralized model use controls in relation to Markets models to enable strong 1st Line management of model risk
  • Develop insightful materials for senior model risk governance forums, lead discussions and drive consensus to ensure consistency of application
  • Investigate model risk control incidents, determine their root cause and lead control design enhancements
  • Design, implement and monitor the ongoing effectiveness of enhanced centralized model use controls in relation to Markets models to enable strong 1st Line management of model risk
  • Provide centralized support to traders, quants and business managers on Model Risk Management Policy requirements relating to the review, approval and use of models
  • Challenge current practices which are not fully aligned with the firm’s standards, identify necessary corrective actions and facilitate resolution of identified inconsistencies
  • Drive standardized, consistent mechanisms and technology enhancements to evidence controls and supervision, and ensure alignment with longer term infrastructure initiatives
  • Manage deliverables in relation to model risk controls across multiple businesses, regions and stakeholders
  • Qualifications and Competencies :

  • Strong knowledge of financial market derivative products, models and model-related regulations
  • Strong controls mindset with experience in designing, implementing and monitoring key controls in a trading environment
  • Experience with leveraging risk and control systems to design and generate effective reports, analyze metrics and investigate anomalies
  • Problem solving mentality with experience in generating creative solutions and the ability to drive change-related projects
  • Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders, adjust communication style for the target audience and to facilitate governance forums
  • Experience collaborating with key 1st and 2nd Line stakeholders such as traders, quants, business managers and Model Risk Management across multiple regions
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to adapt to change
  • Highly motivated and detail oriented with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
