Your Responsibilities :

We are searching for a physician-scientist with expertise in both IBD and clinical development. You will be responsible for the provision of integrated medical governance and clinical leadership for an asset in Ph2 clinical development for an IBD indication.

You will also use your background as a pharmaceutical physician to support the asset’s broader clinical development and your disease area expertise to support the company’s IBD disease area strategy.

You will use your understanding of IBD and clinical development to :

  • Assume a clinical leadership role for an asset progressing in an IBD indication.
  • Design and provide medical support for Ph2 / 3 clinical efficacy studies in IBD, working within a matrixed team environment, including medical monitoring of individual studies where necessary.
  • Actively engage and integrate external academic and clinical trial expertise and resource to enhance quality and delivery of IBD clinical studies.
  • Working within a matrixed team environment, lead development of an integrated evidence plan for an IBD-focussed asset and support the Medicine Development Leader in developing the overall asset strategy.
  • Contribute to the development and understanding of biology and biomarker strategies.
  • Communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders, and drive presentation and publication of clinical and scientific outputs.
  • Provide disease area expertise to support the company IBD disease area strategy.
  • Supervise junior clinicians and clinical scientists
  • Provide development input into Research assets.
  • Provide clinical input to potential Business Development Opportunities in IBD
  • Contribute to create a vibrant Clinical Science community and support GSK’s Innovation, Performance and Trust agenda.
  • You will be highly skilled in managing and influencing effectively across multiple geographies, cultures and time-zones in a matrixed environment.

    You must be able to interface seamlessly with other areas of the GSK organization, including other business units within R&D, Commercial, as well as external regulatory agencies to advance clinical assets effectively.

    Basic qualifications :

  • Medical degree with UK General Medical Council or US Board Certification required.
  • Specialist qualifications in IBD and gastroenterology, or extensive disease area experience preferred.
  • Either extensive clinical development experience or higher level academic qualification (i.e. PhD) are highly desirable for this role.
  • In addition, the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following :

  • Expertise in inflammatory bowel disease from a clinical, academic or industry background.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of drug discovery and development.
  • Knowledge of clinical immunology would be an advantage.
  • Experience in clinical trial design, implementation and interpretation either in an academic or pharmaceutical industry setting.
  • Effective leadership skills including experience of working with and leading teams within a matrix environment.
  • Able to identify the critical technical and non-technical activities associated with the clinical and commercial interfaces of a programme in inflammatory disease.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. A proven ability to deliver clear and effective messages both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence both at junior and senior levels.
  • Able to rapidly assimilate and critically appraise information from a disparate range of sources. In particular, familiar with literature searching and accessing other relevant sources of information to support clinical projects.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Strong organizational and time planning skills to allow the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives.
  • A collaborative and partnering style.
  • Preferred qualifications :

    A good understanding of or background in regulatory affairs would be desirable.
