Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP), North West Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust have been working in partnership to deliver the new Community Perinatal Mental Health Service and we are able to offer a further opportunity for an experienced Community Mental Health Nurse with a passion and enthusiasm for perinatal mental health to join our team.

Part of our partnership working involved the creation of three new specialist Community Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Teams each one operating within the relevant geographic remit of each participating Trust, whilst working together as part of one Community Perinatal Mental Health Service for the entire region.

These new teams have expanded the provision of mental health care and services for women with moderate to severe mental illnesses throughout Cheshire and Merseyside.

Each community PMH Team is comprised of Consultant Psychiatrist, Consultant Psychologist, Team Manager, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapist, Assistant Practitioners and admin support.

This is a unique opportunity for you to join a highly committed team to :

  • respond to the needs of new and expectant mothers in a timely manner, with the capacity to deal with crises and emergencies, as well as supporting routine and preventative care;
  • providing specialist care and support through pregnancy, and for up to one year post-natally, to women experiencing significant mental health difficulties associated with the perinatal period

  • work with the families of unwell women, supporting partners and older children and promoting infant mental health and wellbeing
  • undertake assessments in a variety of settings, including service user homes, antenatal clinics, children’s centres and outpatient clinics
  • work collaboratively with colleagues in maternity services, health visiting, children’s centres and children’s services across the region
  • work collaboratively with a range of adult mental health services to provide support to women with previous or longstanding mental health problems as well as those presenting for the first time in the perinatal period
  • The post holder will be employed by CWP and carry a sector-based caseload; be involved in joint assessments; participate in a duty rota and offer screening and telephone triage for referrals.

    They will be supported by the experienced team.

    The post holder will have a working knowledge of perinatal mental health problems and experience of assessing and managing risk when working with patients in a community setting.

    Ideally they will have knowledge about infant attachment.

    This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week, covering core working hours (9am-5pm) Monday to Friday. Flexible / job-share / part time arrangements may be considered.

    Successful applicants will be located within the CWP Team, the main base is currently Coronation Road Hub, Ellesmere Port, however as the team cover the whole of the CWP footprint and four maternity units across the patch, the successful post holder will be expected to travel across the region and will be part of our agile working team.

    For this vacancy we are looking for someone to provide the majority of cover and support to the Eastern Cheshire area of our footprint, however as our team covers the whole CWP footprint, flexibility to respond to demand across the whole of Cheshire & Wirral is key for our service.
