About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for anexperienced Technical Underwriting andStrategic Portfolio Manager to come join us as the Fleet Product Manager to manage and develop the Commercial Motor Fleet account for AXAInsurance in the UK.

The role will be directly reporting to the UK Headof Casualty, Commercial Motor and Motor Trade Insurancebasedin our London or Ipswich office.

The key focus will be onmaintaining and developing the technical approach, monitoring and reporting onbusiness performance and trends, assisting with the underwriting of large andunusual / non-

standard enquiries that sit outside the Empowerment of our Fleetunderwriters in our Branch centres / Regions, and helping to maintain the highestprofessional standards of approach.

This is a key role in delivering the strategy ofthe UK Motor Fleet portfolio. The roledemands a wide range of disciplines and experience, from underwritingindividual risks, maintaining the technical approach, Portfolio Monitoring andManagement, influencing others and good communication skills that can drivepositive change.

Importantly, the Job Holder will have the 2ndhighest Underwriting authority in the UK for Commercial Fleet business (withonly the Line Manager at a higher level) and will be responsible for definingand shaping the strategic direction of the UK Motor Fleet account whilsthelping to achieve the required financial goals through their interactions andinfluence.

A key part of this will be engaging both internallyand externally where necessary on the largest cases, but also through maintainingand developing the Technical Underwriting and Pricing approach, ensuring alwaysthat both are effectively embedded in the underwriting of the portfolio acrossthe country, through the regular monitoring of the account and the interactionthat comes from helping to manage referrals from UK underwriters into thecentral teams.

What will I bedoing?

  • Develop and maintain underwriting philosophies,rules and guidelines for Branches, to meet Strategic Plan requirements
  • Assist in the formulation of ongoing operationalplans for the Fleet account
  • Provide efficientand accurate underwriting decisions, advice and guidance to write and retainprofitable business in line with Strategic and Operational plans.
  • Take a lead role in the development andcommunication of the Fleet Underwriting Strategy in pursuit of the StrategicPlan.
  • Proactively work with the internal Branch networkto support individual Branch plans, helping to enable the UK Motor FleetStrategic Plans to be effectively delivered.
  • Design and developinnovative solutions to create new and improved guidelines or products insupport of Strategic Plan developments, using your extensive experience inManaging the Commercial Motor product lines at a senior Strategic level.
  • Toinclude Underwriting Guidelines, policy documentation (including wordings andendorsements) and supporting marketing material.

  • Provide effective monitoring and reporting ofaccount performance on a monthly basis, including detailed analysis ofperformance against Budget and top and bottom line trends.
  • Support audit and governance requirements andsupport the training and development of our people by sharing your extensivetechnical and general insurance experience gained over your career to date.
  • Education

  • A level orequivalent
  • Professionalqualification, ACII (or FCII), desirable
  • Knowledge / Skills

  • Thorough knowledgeand application of the technical approach / underwriting process of the productlines under your control.
  • Sound knowledge ofgeneral insurance principles and practice and be able to apply it.
  • Thorough knowledgeof general commercial motor underwriting and the broker market to adapt theunderwriting approach where necessary
  • Personalunderwriting and management of individual complex cases, portfolios andschemes.
  • Experience inPortfolio Management at account / strategic level
  • General insurancelaw and market regulations (i.e. FCA) and how to apply them.
  • Ability to analysestatistical data to monitor performance and identify actions
  • Goodcommunication, presentation and relationship management skills at a Seniorlevel, together with a logical and analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to makethe best use of technology / software available to help improve the portfolioand drive new underwriting strategy or philosophy
  • IT skills e.g.Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Experience

  • Experience inoperating at a senior technical and strategic level, providing guidance andsupport to others and driving forward the agreed Strategy
  • Experience inhaving devised new products and underwriting guidelines.
  • Knowledge ofgeneral insurance key performance indicators and in generally managing aCommercial Motor book of business
  • Experience inparticipating and leading projects, across a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Experience incoaching, mentoring and training others
