About the Team

The Lab Team are at the forefront of the technology innovation process within O2. The team are key in developing new approaches to product development, as well as understanding the business opportunities that new technologies can bring to O2.

About the role

As Head of the Lab, you’ll be responsible for leading talented technologists who have the remit to come up with ideas for new products and services, as well as supporting the business by creating proof of concepts that can drive business effectiveness.

The role is integral in supporting the current transformation of O2 to become a truly digital business that wows its customers.

Responsibilities

  • Being an internal innovation champion and provide thought leadership across the business on best practise innovation process
  • Influencing the development of new products and services in O2 through understanding of cutting edge technology developments and their commercial potential
  • Leading on the delivery of targeted and effective communications strategy showing the potential of technology in relation to O2 strategy and user needs
  • Leading and managing the Lab team and all associated resources
  • Responsible for defining and achieving innovation related KPIs within IT
  • Support the business with achieving better investment choices through the development of proof of concepts’
  • Showcase the opportunities / threats that new technologies can bring to O2 and develop proof of concepts’ that can demonstrate potential new business opportunities / models.
  • Take responsibility of creating business cases if Lab PoCs are adopted by the business.

  • Actively involved in cross IT initiatives that might fall outside the normal remit of an Innovation team
  • Experience

  • Innovation and product development experience
  • Proven experience of leading multidisciplinary technical teams that have an innovation agenda, maintaining high level of employee engagement
  • Strong technical background whilst understanding the business value that new technologies bring
  • Experience of evolving new ideas into fully-fledged services / products / ventures in a corporate environment
  • Experience with managing projects, budgets and multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, used to dealing with senior executive level managers
  • Strong business acumen (across spectrum, from strategy to marketing to finance). Has probably managed a P&L and / or been involved in a start-up
  • Excellent communication, influencing, negotiation and relationship-building skills. Ability to build consensus within and across a diverse organization
  • Strong presentation skills, the ability to translate technical concepts and opportunities into business language and experience of marketing and communicating the value of innovation
