Job Introduction

Liverpool ECHO content editors are at the heart of the newsroom, commissioning and editing copy and working with reporters to ensure our digital platforms are fresh, relevant, accurate and essential to our fast-growing online audience.

You will be creative and have a keen eye for detail and for the stories that will matter most to readers, along with an appreciation of digital storytelling, social media distribution, audience targets and the issues that engage a Liverpool ECHO audience across all areas of news.

This is a fast-paced, rewarding role playing a key part in our digital success and ensuring the ECHO continues to deliver the essential news our readers demand and deserve.

Due to our sustained growth and our ambitious future plans, it is an exciting time to join the ECHO and the wider Reach family.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead newsrooms in producing content which engages readers and reaches as many people as possible.
  • Publish content online and ensure published to Reach digital publishing standards are met at all times
  • Ensure IPSO standards are met at all times and every piece of content is legally sound
  • Manage home pages and audience engagement channels (social, newsletters etc) as and when required
  • Mentor and develop reporters and other direct reports
  • Be accountable for the fair and consistent application of all our people policies, procedures and processes.
  • Foster a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations and having in-the-moment performance discussions.
  • Develop a culture of trust, where people are safe to speak up, clear on their role in the team’s success and empowered to be their best at work.
  • Reward and recognise great performance, celebrating people’s achievements and successes.
  • Ensure the continued development of team members, supporting them to reach their full potential.
  • Partner with our HR team to attract, develop and maintain the best talent to help the business achieve its goals, now and in the future.
  • Including monitoring engagement and using employee feedback to continually improve.

  • The Ideal Candidate

  • Strong people management skills - essential to get this job
  • Digital publishing skills and experience
  • Social media skills
  • Passion for digital storytelling in local journalism and a strong local knowledge
  • Communication, including written, face-to-face, presentation skills and the ability to cascade consistent messages for maximum impact.
  • Planning and organisation
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Deep knowledge of media law
  • NCTJ or equiv qualification
