Permanent, Full-time, 35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

To support our rapid growth, the Games Academy is looking for an excellent technician to support our students and teaching team.

The BA Digital Games at Falmouth University has a unique multi-disciplinary approach to teaching games, which aims to simulate a studio environment in the games industry, while our BSc Computing For Games teaches computer science within the context of team game development.

The ideal candidate has experience working in the games industry or as an indie developer. They will be versatile, and able to support a teaching team, which spans several different disciplines, encompassing both academics and games industry professionals.

The successful candidate will support students in our games studio with technical issues as well as help them develop their projects.

They will be responsible for upgrading and maintaining our games studio technical infrastructure.

Essential :

  • Experience of developing games in Unity or Unreal Engine
  • Expert-level knowledge of version control software such as git or Perforce
  • Understanding of the game art pipeline
  • Ability to service, maintain and document technical facilities, equipment and processes.
  • An up to date knowledge of related technical practice and a commitment to continual specialist development.
  • Ability to service and maintain technical facilities, equipment and processes.
  • Experience of current health & safety practice (eg. COSHH and LOLER) and guidelines including the writing of risk assessments.
  • To undertake research and CPD, by agreement with their line manager, to maintain the currency of their expertise.
  • Desirable :

  • Experience of C# or C++ programming
  • Indie or AAA Game Development Experience
  • Experience in using 3D modelling packages (e.g. Maya and ZBrush)
  • Understanding of managing computers in an enterprise IT environment
  • Experience of contributing to formal assessment of learning.
  • Experience of curriculum delivery and working closely with academic colleagues.
  • Knowledge and experience of server administration (Windows or Linux)
  • A successful external candidate for this position would be employed by Falmouth Staffing Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Falmouth University.
