We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a play work, early years, school or other educational background to join our friendly Groundwork Go Play Sandwell team, (formerly Let’s Play Sandwell).

The ideal candidate would have experience of working with children aged 6-12 years and be able to deliver outdoor / indoor play activities that are age-appropriate, safe, child-led, creative and engaging.

They will also have knowledge of how to plan and develop these free play sessions, with play principles at the forefront of their planning.

This job role will involve completing project monitoring and evaluation reports; ensuring all paperwork is kept up to date, inputted accurately, in a timely manner, and to the standard required by Groundwork West Midlands and the funder.

Also desirable is experience of working with other community and voluntary organisations and in developing partnerships across Sandwell.

Furthermore, it will be desirable if the candidate has experience in marketing and the use of social media and / video making software for engaging with audiences and promoting the project.

This role involves regular evening

  • and occasional weekend work and will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
  • Due to Covid-19, this role and delivery commitments on the project have changed until further guidance from Sandwell Council.
  • The role is currently home-based, with planning, admin tasks and creating resources / content for the programme. This also includes marketing and delivering the Go Play Sandwell project via virtual platforms.

    About Go Play Sandwell

    Since 2017, Groundwork West Midlands has been a delivery partner on the Go Play Sandwell programme, funded by Sandwell Council.

    Across three towns of Sandwell, we provide nine sessions a week offering play opportunities aimed at children aged 6-12 years old (and up to 16 with additional needs).

    All the sessions are free, open access, and take place after-school and throughout school holidays. Sessions are child led, and typically comprise a range of activities including :

  • Creative activities (e.g. weaving, clay work, kite making)
  • Nature based / exploratory activities (e.g. mini beast hunts, scavenger hunts, making bird feeders)
  • Formal and informal team games (e.g. football, cricket, parachute games)
  • Free play opportunities and also play equipment (e.g. loose parts, garden games)
  • Project outcomes include :

  • Children are supported to co-create playable spaces and opportunities by working with adults so that their voices and ideas can be taken into account.
  • Children are supported to play in the places that they want to play in a way that they choose with their friends.
  • Children are supported to have increased independence and accessibility in their local communities for playing.
  • Children are supported to have the time and space for positive social interactions with their friends where and when they want.
