(BTL) is currently looking for a Senior Legal Counsel - Privacy , who will partner up with the transport business unit within Booking.

com, advising on a range of legal questions related to data protection and privacy. The successful candidate will help to make the right decisions to comply with all relevant data protection and privacy laws.

As the Senior Legal Counsel - Privacy you will :

  • Advise BTL on data protection and privacy compliance for all business processes, including strategy, products, policies (both internal and external), training, contractual requirements and agreements with third parties, and ensuring that the business is compliant with the applicable data protection legislation at a global jurisdictional level
  • Provide (ad-hoc) legal advice to the organisation to ensure their activities and business practices comply with relevant data protection and privacy laws worldwide
  • Provide strategic and risk-based solutions, including managing external lawyers and interpreting and applying external advice to the BTL business, in respect of changes required pursuant to global data protection and privacy requirements
  • Perform Data Protection Impact Assessments on operational matters to ensure the organisation complies with all relevant data protection and privacy laws
  • Review, improve and update standard templates to support the organisation
  • Keep up with new developments in data protection and privacy laws worldwide and report these new developments to the wider Privacy legal team
  • Advise in respect of copy approval for all data privacy copy published on the BTL platforms
  • Deal with any inquiries or requests for information from regulatory bodies and supervisory authorities in various jurisdictions in respect of data protection and privacy compliance matters
  • Perform third party risk assessments and closing the relevant legal contracts with third parties
  • Support on handling escalated internal and external complaints and data subject requests
  • Review, and improve internal privacy policies and external privacy notices
  • Develop training modules for data protection and privacy for employees and identifying specific risks and gaps in knowledge where additional targeted training is required
  • Work closely together with the senior privacy counsels in the more complex matters, and report into the BTL’s Senior Managing Counsel - Privacy
  • The ideal Sr Legal Counsel - Privacy will have :

  • 5+ years’ with a reputable law firm or in-house and experience in a role involving data protection and consumer laws, privacy compliance and data security
  • LLB or equivalent; or Bachelor Degree; or Specialised Diploma in Privacy
  • CIPP / E / CIPT (or other similar) certification is desirable
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the GDPR
  • Deep understanding of system integration concepts, platform strategies, cloud-based infrastructures and new IT technology fields
  • Knowledge and experience in applying risk-based decision making
  • Confidence in ability to provide commercial advice and guidance
  • Able to demonstrate commercial awareness and understanding of the business requirements
  • Solution oriented and results driven
  • Adaptable to new ideas, and ability to change direction balancing long-term view with short-term actions
  • Professional and collaborative approach
  • Proactive, solution oriented, self-starter with high energy and drive with ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organisational skills including the ability to prioritise effectively with the ability to quickly respond to issues at hand
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English (other language skills are a plus)

  • Excellent drafting skills, analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Fluent English language skills; written and verbal
