Principal Engineer (Software Assurance)
Would you like to be a part of a key role in the Software Assurance department? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Software Assurance) at our site in Barrow - in - Furness.
As a Principal Engineer (Software Assurance), you will be a part of a critical role as the software shapes how the systems operate across the submarine platform.
This role will provide you with working with the wider Engineering function and liaising with Supply Chain and some customers / stakeholders.
You will be working across a broad spectrum of systems, getting deeply involved with the systems engineering design and interacting with the whole spectrum of the engineering community.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Software Assurance) will involve :
Interacting with System Owners to ensure that the software components within System Designs are adequately managed and Design Documentation is acceptable
Liaising with other Transverse Requirement Owners, particularly Information Assurance and Safety, to ensure a coherent approach to software management is applied
Liaising with Software Suppliers to maintain assurance of design intent, and to monitor resolution of issues that may compromise compliance with the requirements
Attending meetings with suppliers on design reviews and progress updates
Witnessing of testing at the Suppliers premises
Producing and compiling evidence in support of the Software and Software Safety Requirements
Contributing to the identification and rapid closure of defects and issues emerging from testing and trials, and maintain oversight of any resulting change embodiment or concession activities
Providing assurance to the business that software related activities are being undertaken in accordance with relevant policies, plans and processes
Supporting the build, setting to work and commissioning of software related systems
Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer (Software Assurance) :
Ideally a degree qualified in Software or Systems engineering or equivalent experience
Experience of working in development environments that include programmable hardware, Industrial control systems and real-time embedded software
Experience and understanding of international software standards including safety (e.g. IEC61508, DO178, DO254)
Ideally have software quality assurance and auditing experience, but not essential

Good communication skills with the ability to make decisions when in discussions with suppliers.
