About the roles

BWB Consulting has exciting opportunities for talented Engineers within the field of Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering.

The roles will be based in either our Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, London or Nottingham offices.

The roles will be focused on providing the design support on railway engineering projects in close collaboration with our Signalling, Track and other specialist rail designers for UK projects on Network Rail, High Speed 2, Light rail, Metro and international projects.

Due to the nature of the roles, it is essential that the individuals are comfortable working on complex and challenging schemes within a fast-

paced, professional environment and is able to manage stakeholder expectations to the benefit of the scheme.

In addition to having a proven record of railway design excellence, the individuals will have a deep technical interest in the interface between railways, earthworks, geotechnical, bridges and drainage designs.

Thereby, being willing to understand cross-discipline input to provide fully integrated, commercial design solutions from feasibility through to construction.

It is also important that the individuals are driven by a genuine desire to identify the optimum design solutions to complex engineering problems and is able to take a pragmatic approach to the application of specialist advice to achieve specific project outcomes.

As such, the successful candidate will be both technically and commercially astute with a good understanding of cost, programme, contractual and build ability issues associated with railway infrastructure schemes.

Our Rail Design Service provides innovative rail design solutions on a broad range of projects ranging from building external works to major rail freight interchanges and strategic residential developments.

These schemes are undertaken for a variety of clients from local developers to national contractors and major private sector companies.

About you

The successful candidates will be enthusiastic, approachable and possess strong communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels internally and particularly with external design team members and clients.

Having previous experience of communicating with clients and other stakeholders on a face to face basis is essential and a key part of this role.

The preparation of clear and concise technical reports and presentations is vital, as well as the ability to communicate complex engineering issues to a non-technical audience.

You will understand key Network Rail standards and other rail provider standards and be interested in developing your understanding of other disciplines associated with the design and construction of major infrastructure projects.
