For our location in Laindon (Basildon), Essex we are seeking a Mechatronics Design Engineer who will be part of the product development team within R&D, responsible for integration between electrical / electronic and mechanical components / sub-systems to meet defined requirements for a given application.
Develop and / or assist the development of integrated mechatronic solutions for a defined electric motor / electronics system, including but not limited to :
Motor winding termination & connection to electronics
Bus bar routing, cooling, processing.
Inter-electronics connectors & cabling (e.g. links between inverter & controller)
External connectors & cabling (power & signal)
Mounting of electronics inside mechanical assembly
Electronics cooling (air, water, other)
Support, analyze, trouble shoot mechatronic design and fabrication related issues as required within the project
Review and support mechatronic FMEA requirements and processes and systems level requirements and processes within allocated project / s
Provide technical support to manufacturing engineering, prototyping, quality departments and / or 3rd party vendors as required
Review and complete modification to existing mechatronic designs as necessary, applying improvement options where possible
Assist in the development of test plans, tools and procedures improving the mechatronic verification and validation process
Liaise with and support as necessary 3rd party technical partners ensuring project timing milestones and technical deliverables are achieved
Monitor, report project status and escalate any technical or timeline risks to the department project manager
Ensure the mechatronic design / s meet project technical and qualitative requirements meeting to standards including universal quality standards, OEM specific quality standards and ISO 26262 functional safety requirements
Monitor state-of-the-art in mechatronic technologies and concepts
What will make you successful
Minimum 5 years, preferably 10, in electro-mechanical design, preferably within automotive / aerospace sector, preferably involving the design of electric machines with integrated electronics
Qualified to degree level (2 : 1) in an appropriate engineering discipline
Experience in hybrid powertrain systems and / or electric motors / machines and associated inverter & controller electronics
Experienced in communicating with customers, senior management and project teams.
Experience to managing fluctuating workloads, flexibility to travel in UK and internationally
Experienced with application of the structure development processes and automotive quality standards
Experienced with the automotive functional safety standard, ISO26262.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience working within ASpice Framework desirable
