Key Responsibilities

  • Play an integral role in maintaining one of the Army’s vital lines of communication, ensuring the morale of deployed troops remains high.
  • Run your own Post Office, using the latest IT systems from Royal Mail and British Forces Post Office.
  • Handle all types of mail, whether official or private, and be responsible for handling large amounts of cash and stock.
  • You will mainly be based at South Cerney (Gloucestershire), but will have the opportunity to be employed worldwide.
  • Learn about clerical and accounting procedures and be trained on use of satellite communication equipment.

    Training For The Role

    Step 1

    You'll start with your initial military training which will teach you how to be a soldier - this will cover everything from fieldcraft to how to handle a rifle.

    If you join as a Junior Soldier (under 17 years 5 months), you’ll do a 23-week basic military training course at Harrogate.

    If you join as a Regular Soldier (over 17 years 1 month), you’ll do the regular 14-week adult basic training.

    Step 2

    After mastering the basics you take a 3 week course at the Defence College of Logistics and Policing Administration in Deepcut, Camberley.

    This teaches you to use our systems, which help us track and trace mail all over the world. You also learn how to deal with Top Secret material.

    Age : 16 years 6 months - 35 years 6 months Qualifications : GCSE Grade A D / 9-3 in at least English Language and Maths Fitness :

  • Medicine Ball Throw 3.1m
  • 2km run 11m 15s (11m 30s for Junior Entry)

    Pay and Benefits

    Earn £15,985 during training.

    When your Initial training is finished, and you join your unit as a Private, your pay will rise to £20,400
