Special Projects at Marshmallow

Newly established, the Special Projects team is responsible for identifying, scoping, and launching new commercial opportunities outside of existing core business.

This can mean new insurance lines, new countries or something else entirely. Joining at this exciting stage of our journey as one of the first hires in the Special Projects team, will give you the freedom and opportunity to really make a mark on the team and the wider company.

Role Description

In this exciting and varied role, we’re looking for someone to identify, research, size, scope and deliver new commercial opportunities, both within and outside of insurance, in the UK and internationally.

Working with the Head of Special Projects and wider multidisciplinary teams, you will play a key role in developing Marshmallow’s new, innovative and differentiating propositions to accelerate the company’s ambitious growth plans.

What you will achieve in your first 12 months at Marshmallow

Day to day, you will play a fundamental part in :

  • Assisting in identifying strategic commercial opportunities for the business, later developing and owning a systematic market-scanning capability
  • Evaluating opportunities by developing robust and well thought through business proposals, translating concepts or ideas into considered, impactful plans
  • Creating a prioritised list of new revenue opportunities ready for Product to deliver.
  • Collaborating with teams across Marshmallow and externally to validate and receive buy-in to your ideas
  • Taking ownership for structuring, developing and driving implementation of projects, tracking progress, blockers and risks and keeping senior stakeholders updated.
  • Who you are

    Experiences that are essential

    The successful applicant will have to identify and validate the commercial opportunities, arrange and take calls with potential partners to understand the landscape, build strong business cases, effectively communicate their ideas and drive projects from concept to sale.

    To succeed in the role, they will need to have :

  • Strong experience (2-4 years) in a management consultancy, investment banking, start-up or scale-up organisation.
  • Excellent understanding of what drives commercial value, how to use data to assess commercial performance and how to build a solid business case.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication oral and written skills, including development of financial models, business cases and board level presentations
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills to identify, break down and solve problems
  • Driven, hard-working mindset that is uncompromising in delivering high quality work in tight timelines
  • Experience in autonomously leading projects. Being a team player who effectively collaborates with multidisciplinary stakeholders
  • Strong desire to get stuck in and being hands on - being grounded and wanting to get stuff done is important.
  • Desire to work in a start up / scale up environment. We’re growing quickly, which means lots of opportunities but also ambiguity and frequent change
  • Demonstrable interest in the sector and excitement about Marshmallow’s mission. Experience in insurance / insurtech is highly desirable but not essential.
