The Pensions group and the role
Our pensions group advises the full range of stakeholders, including insurers, employers, trustees, intermediaries, Governmental bodies and bidders and sellers on all aspects of pensions law.
We provide a full range of legal services in relation to pension schemes, as well as providing specialist input on transactions, litigation and restructuring and insolvency matters. Our work includes :
advising on de-risking through the insurance market we are market leaders, having advised on around 200 bulk annuity transactions;
providing specialist input on corporate transactions with significant pensions issues;
advising trustees and employers on their most complex matters, including GMP equalisation, scheme funding arrangements, scheme mergers and closure proposals and the impact of corporate activity on pension schemes, as well as day to matters;
advising on regulatory investigations, including responding to section 72 notices and the potential exercise of the Pensions Regulator’s powers;
acting on a range of pensions related disputes, including on some of the most high-profile cases in recent years.
We are looking for candidates who can deal with the full spectrum of issues affecting pension schemes and key stakeholders.
In particular, we are interested in candidates with experience of bulk annuity transactions. The successful candidate will provide first rate legal advice and suggest practical solutions to clients' problems.
Note that the role is pensions specific and candidates will not be required to lead on employment or employee remuneration and incentive matters.
Skills, experience and qualifications
Exceptional academics (at least a 2 : 1 degree classification)
Broad experience gained at a City or regional firm with a recognised pensions practice
4 years+ post-qualification experience within pensions, including experience advising on pension scheme de-risking through insured solutions
