Purpose Statement :
As an API Consultant, you’ll be joining a Global API Discovery & Implementation Services team. On this team you will assist with delivering truly innovative software that impacts many of our customers and travelers around the world.
These exciting roles involve building trusted technical relationships with our customers, working hand in hand with developers to implement standard methodologies and improvements to customer-owned application software and API-powered workflows.
You will be the go-to’ person for domain expertise across API specific products and services, covering all aspects of searching, booking, ticketing, and servicing of airline, hotel and car rental products.
Providing support from pre-sales discovery to solutions implementation consultancy and development support to our API customer base.
These customers are using Travelport’s API product offerings to provide software and services to end consumers and corporate customers alike.
The team offers support and service on an implementation specific basis for new customers as well as existing customers who are migrating or implementing new API focused products and features.
You will represent the voice of our Developer customers within Travelport and champion their needs with our API Product and Development organizations.
This team establishes themselves as the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on our portfolio of API products and are used internally within the global Travelport business as such.
The global team is organized into three regional divisions; however, governance exists globally to ensure that the consulting and engineering services provided is largely consistent but with flexibility to allow for regional nuances to meet the needs of the specific customer base.
The API consultant are part of the Consulting, Onboarding & Optimization (CO&O) organization, reporting to the Regional Technical Optimization Team Leader.
The role might cover customers across different regions and functions (e.g. Global OTA).
Main Accountabilities :
Acting as an API Consultant supporting the sales team during pre-sales stage to ensure full technical discovery and solution validation is done to ensure the solution meets customers’ expectations and product goals.
Documenting showstoppers and product gaps and feed those back to the Commercial partners, API product organization and delivery teams.
Providing onsite consultancy for (key) customers that require more in-depth support during development stage (end to end application workflow review etc.).
Coordinating issues resolution activities with varied partner organizations.
Collaborating and building effective relationships with Product Portfolio Owners, Software Delivery teams and Customer Support teams across the global technology organization.
Influencing API products’ functional and technical improvement and strategy based on knowledge gained from the customer developer experience during implementations.
Assisting through release cycles in UAT of testing new features, enhancements and defect fixes in a customer-centric manner.
Leading crisis and critical issue activities for oneself for API products and functional issues as required.
Finding opportunities to streamline D&I processes and supplement / acquire product support knowledge across the Global API Services & Delivery Team;
recommending solutions and motivating changes as appropriate.
Ensuring proper hand off to the API Support organization at the end of API implementations to ensure a smooth customer transition to Business as Usual (BAU).
Presenting ideas and plans in a formal, yet approachable manner, not afraid to make decisions and course-correct but willing to spend significant time learning the business, current climate, personnel and capabilities before bringing change.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience, Training, Education :
The job holder should :
Graduate or equivalently qualified by experience.
5+ years of relevant application development or systems solutions engineering experience with technical project management skills.
Experience as a technical consultant in SaaS companies, ideally one delivering APIs & Web Services.
Exposure to working in a customer-facing API implementation role, more typically known as a solutions or sales engineer.
Possess sound analytical skills; with the ability to identify key issues and information in complex situations, problem solve and work closely with the appropriate experts within the team and the company to find solutions.
Present excellent verbal and written communication skills; with confidence inspiring and influencing any level of professional within an organization, internal or external.
Language proficiency, both written and verbal
Ideally, the job holder would also have
Knowledge or experience working with (travel) APIs, preferably Travelport’s GWS, XML Pro or uAPI. Additionally, experience with one of the Travelport GDS Systems (Apollo, Galileo or Worldspan) would be valuable.
Knowledge of (or strong desire to learn) competitors’ operational activities and standards in this area (Amadeus and Sabre), and an ability to speak of the differentiators intelligently would be a bonus.
Ability to work with a high degree of comfort to collaborate and engage cross cultural and international teams and across multiple time zones.
Be able to challenge current operational thinking and propose improvements affecting the software, the team’s productivity and the customer experience
