Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) is central to the British Council’s cultural relations purpose. Our Equality Policy and EDI Strategy describes the importance of ensuring that our staff and the people we work with are not discriminated against and that we promote equality in everything we do.
The Senior Leadership Team launched an Anti-Racism Vision and Action Plan for staff in July 2020 setting out the principles in which we will work within British Council and with our audiences globally, and areas we will work on internally to address racism.
This is a newly created opportunity to actively lead on the development of EDI strategy for English & Exams (E&E) globally.
As Senior Programme Manager you will partner with the Diversity Unit and the broader EDI network, to develop an EDI programme for E&E that is robust and underpinned by the British Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy.
The programme will be broad ranging, and will include Leadership and Performance, Recruitment, Talent and Career Development, Training, Research and Insight, Communications and Engagement, and internal / external benchmarking.
Collaborating with colleagues across E&E, you will drive and support implementation of the programme globally, ensuring there are on-going opportunities for minority ethnic staff to share their experiences and contribute to its development.
You will ensure the programme scope stays within focus, is achievable, and is aligned to other initiatives and teams including the Futures programme and SLT Anti- Racism Action Plan.
Leading on developing a network of EDI resources across E&E globally, you will work closely with E&E Leadership Team, managing all aspects of the programme including governance, resource planning, financial and risk management, monitoring, evaluation and learning, staff engagement, research and insight to ensure change is embedded into day to day working practice.
We are seeking an individual who has robust experience of working on complex culture change programmes, or programmes where you have supported different teams to work towards a shared goal.
Essentially, you will have an understanding of and strong commitment to EDI. Ideally you will combine strong practical skills, knowledge and experience of EDI, and will be able to demonstrate how EDI has been applied to a professional role or project.
The role is offered as a 2 year fixed term contract and can be based in any of the following regions : UK, Europe, Wider Europe, Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa.
It is open globally to colleagues who have the right to work in these locations. A successful applicant already based in one of these regions will remain in their present post location.
A relocation package is not offered.
