Group Financial Accountant

Location - Flexible

The Accounting Policy & Advisory team is a small strategic team that provides accounting advice and guidance in respect of projects and initiatives.

You will be required to explain the impact of projects and initiatives on the IFRS income statement, balance sheet and adjusted profit.

You will be required to develop strong working relationships across finance as a whole and you will be at the centre of the decision-making process.

As a listed entity it is very important that SLA plc is able to report its performance to the market in a clear way which makes it easy to understand the key drivers behind the performance of the business and the opportunities that exist for its development.

The Accounting Policy & Advisory Team will be involved in designing how we report to the market and you will be expected to contribute to the enhancement of the reporting.

The team is also responsible for monitoring, assessing and managing the implementation of the IFRS requirements on behalf of SLA plc and providing training.

The Group Financial Accountant will report to the Accounting Policy & Advisory Manager in the Group Reporting team.

Key responsibilities

  • To participate in strategic projects to ensure that all relevant IFRS accounting issues are considered, their impact fully understood and business opportunities are maximised
  • To be involved in ad-hoc business projects as required and provide IFRS accounting advice and guidance
  • To act as a point of contact for areas across the Group for IFRS technical accounting queries
  • To participate in the development of the Group’s IFRS external reporting to the market, including the reporting of performance metrics
  • To research into current and emerging IFRS technical accounting issues and assess their impact on the Group’s IFRS results
  • To contribute to the implementation of new standards across the Group
  • To ensure that internal controls operate effectively and adequate evidence is provided
  • Technical Skills / Experience Required

  • Qualified accountant
  • Strong IFRS accounting knowledge
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, especially the ability to communicate complex issues simply and effectively
  • Analytical skills
  • Attention to detail
