The mission of the Architect role is to help accelerate the construction of an integrated data and services platform for Life Sciences, known as Entellect’
The successful candidate will provide architectural guidance and governance across the Entellect squads, within the Life Sciences portfolio supporting the Senior Architect and aligned with the Technology Director.
You will work with the architecture vision and with the platform Product Owner to keep the development on track. You will work closely with the business and technology leadership, with Agile development teams, and other architects within Elsevier as a mentor, architect, and technologist.
You will be entrusted to evangelize the direction, guide ongoing development, contribute to roadmaps and introduce new technologies.
The Architect will work across key stakeholders in our Squad model (UX, developer, scrum master, business / product owners, and management,) as well as other architects throughout the organization.
Significant experience with large scale software development in geographically dispersed organisations, range of programming & software frameworks, big data / analytics and search technology experience are all highly desirable.
As is an appreciation of architecture frameworks and methods.
A minimum of three years of relevant technical leadership or architecture experience, demonstrable strong communication skills, and the ability to think and plan long-term are a must.
This role will also require c15% travel.
The perfect candidate should :
Have a strong grasp of architecture and governance concepts
Be familiar with the development of platforms and eco-systems
Be able to evaluate, summarise and communicate complex systems & problems
Have relevant experience of the Life Sciences
Understand search concepts, text pre-processing and indexing, Lucene, Elasticsearch or Solr
Experience with ingestion of structured and unstructured data and data processing pipelines, Spark, Kafka or other
Experience with graph and triple-store technologies
Proficient in APIs development, microservices architecture, EIP, Netflix OSS or Kubernetes
Proficient in Java, Python and / or Scala design patterns, algorithms and data structures, familiar with JSON, RDF and Linked Data.
Be proficient in cloud computing, AWS services, CI / CD pipelines, Git flow
Comfortable undertaking code reviews alongside senior developers
