About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a LEAD UAV SURVEYOR to join our Rail team to work in Derby.

Role Purpose :

The Lead UAV Surveyor drives the successful delivery of UAV projects and proactively promotes OBBs Specialist Survey capability with internal and external customers.

As Balfour Beattys UAV expert, you will manage operating standards across the BB Operating Companies to maintain compliance with Government requirements.

You will act as a central point of contact across BB and provide specialist UAV services and advice, linking in with our other capabilities as necessary.

Together with the Measurement Services Manager, you will be responsible for leading our business development activities in the UAV space.

You will maintain our Key Account Management plan for current and potential UAV customers, and actively work to generate new business.

Day to day, you will be responsible for estimating costs, writing proposals, delivering services, and for invoicing the customer on time.

You will also lead research and development projects to ensure that OBB are always up to date with UAV technical advancements.

From time to time, there will also be a requirement to support some of our other survey activities, e.g. topographical surveys.

What you'll be doing

As a LEAD UAV SURVEYOR, you will have the following accountabilties :

  • Leading the further development and maintenance of our UAV KAM plan, including strategy
  • Accurate pricing of works to ensure we achieve the required profit margins
  • Production of project proposal documents
  • Delivery of UAV project work and invoicing of the customer
  • Ensuring that our UAV works are in-line with government standards and procedures
  • Management of UAV resources to ensure project work is delivered on time
  • Ensuring that we are using the best technology to deliver the services that our customers require
  • Who we're looking for

    You will have the following qualities and experience :

  • Significant experience in UAV piloting and equipment and operating procedures. Technically proficient with expertise in all aspects of flying UAVs in a commercial environment and an understanding of Engineering and site needs
  • Ability to manage the processing of UAV data, good computer skills as well as good interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with an ability to perform well under time pressure
  • Expert understanding of the relevant Standards and requirements for undertaking UAV work
  • Experience of Topographical survey, including use of Total Stations and laser scanners
  • Excellent communicator able to be successful with stakeholders, engineers, and customers
  • Proactive approach to project management, the ability to anticipate problems in advance and plan an appropriate response
  • Ability to be assertive with resources and management when necessary
  • Ability to simultaneously manage resources, time, and goals to deliver the customers requirements
  • A good appreciation of other specialist surveying techniques and an ability to learn and gain more skills Self-starter attitude
  • Full UK Driving licence essential
  • To continuously pursue innovation and development and to learn best practice across the industry including supply chain and professional bodies
  • The following qualities / experience are desirable :

  • An Engineering or Surveying qualification is desirable although not essential
  • Valid CSCS card
  • Valid PTS card
