Senior Strategic Systems Engineer

Location : Devonport, Plymouth

Babcock Naval Marine - Engineering Services (ES) business unit provides engineering management and technical support services to enable the delivery of the company’s key contracted outputs to the MoD, essentially to deliver available and capable platforms for the Royal Navy.

Maritime Mission Systems Group within ES contains both Strategic and Combat Systems Engineers who provide engineering support services to the MoD in addition to providing organic engineering support to the wider Babcock Marine Sector across multiple sites

Main Purpose of Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced engineer to join a small engineering team playing a key role in Babcock’s contribution to the Submarine Strategic Weapon Enterprise (SWE).

Key elements of the post are :

  • To deliver engineering support to contracted outputs for MoD SWS & SWSS (Strategic Systems) in-service and future submarine programmes including
  • o materiel analysis

    o engineering procedures / policy update

    o programme and schedule reviews

  • To work effectively and collaboratively with industry partners within the Strategic Weapons Enterprise
  • To act as an internal Babcock subject matter expert for Submarine Strategic Systems, providing advice and facilitating coherent information exchange to support cross business outputs
  • To manage the engineering and business outputs and requirements of subordinate engineers
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences

    Desirable (but not essential) Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences

  • Knowledge of Submarine Strategic Systems activities including programme, policies, procedures, technologies, equipment, support, and operations
  • Recent experience of working with or as part of MoD / RN authorities
  • Able to operate independently on tasking basis
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Qualifications

  • Engineering degree qualification in Electronic / Mechanical discipline with significant demonstrable relevant experience and capability OR HND / HNC in relevant discipline with significant demonstrable relevant experience and capability
  • Membership or applying for membership of a profession engineering body (IET, IMechE)
  • Grade

    This position is within the Engineering Services business unit as a grade 6 which has a salary of £42,180 with DRDL Terms and Conditions.
