Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Test Technician to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Test Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-

routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision.

The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Liaising with and assisting the client, including contractors and third parties, during construction of test specimens
  • Preparation of test specimens in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate Standard and internal procedures under the supervision of the Testing / Technical Officer and Laboratory Supervisor / Team Leader, when required
  • Determination of physical properties of test specimens and / or component parts, where required
  • Instrumentation of test specimens and preparation of diagram showing positions and types of all instrumentation used
  • Operation of furnace and any ancillary equipment to ensure compliance with the appropriate test requirements, when required

    Observing and noting occurrences throughout the test with respect to the relevant test standard, where appropriate

    Evaluating the performance of the specimen / s in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate test standard, where appropriate and under the supervision of the Testing / Technical Officer responsible

    Ensuring all safety requirements are fulfilled in conjunction with the Testing / Technical Officer, as appropriate

    Demolition and safe disposal of test specimens within a reasonable time frame after the test to ensure maximum utilisation of each frame

    Ensuring the laboratory is clean and tidy at all times, particularly with respect to the furnace to which you have been allocated

    Provision of test data, photographs and material properties for inclusion in the test report being prepared for the appropriate Testing / Technical Officer, within the required time period set by the departmental objectives

    The preparation of the report may also require the survey to be carried out on the test specimen prior to (and directly after) the test

    Completion of internal systems using FIREMAN and any associated procedures designed for the effective operation of the department.

    Skills / Qualifications

  • Possesses the ability to work alone the majority of the work day; only requiring assistance for clarification or confirmation of test procedures
  • Understands what must be completed each work day and takes the initiative to complete those tasks properly and timely
  • Ability to take testing projects from initial set up to completion and ready for report writing.
  • Ability to read and understand customer specifications and perform the testing required. May schedule customer visits for test review and customer resolution(s).
  • Develop a proven ability to set up and perform a variety of tests according to customer specifications under minimal supervision and technical input of a Senior / Principal Test Technician
