he Health Care Assistant (HCA) Apprenticeship role is a new, exciting and developing role within the team and would suit a people person.
An HCA Apprentice provides help and support to people with limited mobility or other care needs, covering a wide variety of older residents including people with physical and mental health needs.
This support might be completely health related or could also include social work like helping people writing letters or engaging in a range of activities.
This role will also require you to help people with daily personal care like washing, eating and using the toilet. You may need to help people to walk safely and use equipment to move people.
You will also need to be confident talking to family members.
In this role you may perform a variety of the following tasks :
On the 15-18-month Level 2 Adult Care Worker apprenticeship standard, you will work towards the following :
All training to be provided by City College Plymouth in collaboration with the company themselves throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.
Qualities and skills :
No qualifications are required but a basic level of maths and English are essential. GCSEs at grades C / 4 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English would be beneficial as you would not need to study these alongside the apprenticeship.
Prospects : Future prospects
With experience and further training, you could become a senior healthcare assistant. You could then apply to train as an assistant practitioner or nursing associate.
With the appropriate qualifications / evidence of academic ability, you could also train as one of the many degree-level healthcare professionals such as a nurse, podiatrist, midwife or occupational therapist.
