As part of our continued support to a major client, Expleo are looking for a Lead Design Engineer / Checker to join our aerospace team based in our Bristol office.

This is a permanent role supporting our aerospace clients in the Bristol area, the salary is negotiable based on experience / skill level.

In addition to the salary we offer 25 days leave, pension plan, optional health care plus numerous staff benefits. Candidates will have extensive experience in the design of aircraft structural components and will be able to lead and develop project teams.

Job Summary

The role will involve being responsible for leading design investigations and formulating technical solutions for a range of tasks.

As apart of this role you will be a great leader and mentor to the engineering team, assisting the development of team members.

You will also ensure that design standards and requirements are met and operate as a design authorisation signatory. You will possess great experience with design approval from either the aerospace industry or another high specification industry such as satellites and will have held design approval before.

Job Responsibilities :

Develop, implement, check / approve technical solutions and compliance documentation for work-packages to ensure they are compliant with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements, within agreed program, schedule, and manufacturing constraints.

Identify, analyse and resolve technical problems and apply / integrate solutions.

Develop, execute, and verify methods plans, tool-sets and approaches that are appropriate and compliant to achieve the design and programme objectives.

Analyse customer requirements and define the associated technical solutions as input for bids and proposals within assigned programs / projects.

Prepare Preliminary Means of Compliance to the customer requirements.

Identify and assess technical risk and propose mitigations relevant to the work-package within assigned programmes / projects.

Generate and check test specifications / plans and / or alternate means of compliance (analysis / similarity) as required to demonstrate design solution complies with certification requirements.

Develop and check / approve designs compliant to cost and manufacturing requirements using appropriate techniques for design such as manufacture and assembly (DFMA) and design to cost.

Create and check / approve design definitions of a work-package, including integration, interfaces, dimensions, materials, parts, manufacturing process requirements, assemblies, and tolerances which are compliant to all design requirements and objectives.

Generate or review, and sign as appropriate the assigned project deliverables, documents, and reports according to the project signature authorisations.

Mentor and development of engineers within assigned programmes.

Support with the creation and delivery of training material and initiatives relevant to a work-package / programme.

Support and participate in technical and customer reviews, including formal gate reviews, including the creation and preparation of technical data and presentations of a work-package.

Process and verify documentation such as concessions and non-conformances and provide technical support by implementing solutions to address non-conforming products, designs, and compliance documentation.

Perform all activities at a level of minimal supervision and guide other engineers within the work-package as required.

Identify improvements and create and / or check the work instructions, procedures, technical manuals, and guidelines.

Support operations and support manufacturing engineering team in translation of the product design and manufacturing requirements of a work package in a manufacturing design during prototype build and serial manufacturing, where applicable.

Support the qualification process of products within a work-package, and prepare and / or check compliance documentation to internal, customer, and regulatory requirements, where applicable.

Key Skills :

Manufacturing Non-Conformance experience.

Held design approval before example A1020

Leadership and mentoring.

Knowledge of aerospace or previous experience.

Experience with working with stakeholders, chief engineers and Local Programmes teams.
