iScienceis looking torecruit for a maternity leave coverageinitsteam of scientific editors ().IScienceisan exciting broad scope open access journal publishing in the life and physical sciences, within the prestigious Cell Press imprint.

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Assistantor AssociateEditorwho shares our passion for helping scientists publish their work in a straightforward and timely way.

Key responsibilities will include :

Recruiting exciting research papers for submission toiScienceand fostering communities of interest

Commissioningreview content

Assessingsubmitted researchpapers

Working collaboratively with academic editorial board members and editors

Overseeingthe peer review process for direct submissions and transferredcontributions

Establishingrelationships with researchers

Recruitingexciting research papers for submission toiScience

Representingthe journal and Cell Press at scientific meetings, andvisitresearchinstitutions

Buildingeffective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond

This is a full-time in-house editorial position. It can be based in our main office in inAmsterdam, Netherlands, Cambridge, MA (USA),Oxford / London, UK, orBeijing, China.

  • What you should bring :
  • PhD in aphysical sciencesdiscipline is a must. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise inmaterials science, but we are open to scientists with backgrounds inadjacentareasthat the journal covers.

    Previous editorial experience is desirable, but not required.

    Broad scientific interests, a desire to learn, and the ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues.

    As a scientific editor, you will need to develop an understanding of the diverse areas covered by the journal, as well as be open to exciting emerging topics.

    Great interpersonal skills. Collaboration and networking are core aspects of the job.

    Strong ability to communicate clearly.

    Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and focus.

    Creativity, willingness to experiment, and desire to improve.

    The ability to work well in a team.
