Graduate - IT

Please note this role is permanently based in St Albans, but will include a scheme placement in Eastleigh, Hants

This is a great opportunity for an ambitious intelligent Graduate who is hungry, enthusiastic and flexible and who wants to join a large FMCG organisation.

It will suit someone who wants to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of IT and who will flourish in a fast paced environment where you are given early responsibility.

Overview of the IT Function

Agile and effective IT systems and processes are critical to the ongoing success of our business. Significant investment has been made in new systems and infrastructure as well as alignment of existing systems.

Our IS function is split into 3 areas each is headed up by a senior manager.

  • SAP Excellence
  • We have a total in-house IT team of 52 however we work with a number of 3rd parties who provide us with Data Centre, Networking capabilities as well as specialist, technical and development activity.

    Our IT team are currently based across various locations including St Albans, Manchester and Eastleigh.

    Depending on their role, they may be required to travel to different locations which can include overnight stays.

    Our IT team is relatively small and lean and they have a hard work and continuous improvement ethic.

    Month One Induction

    During the first week you will be based at our Head Office in St Albans whilst you participate in a Welcome’ to the organisation, your fellow graduates and our well-loved brands.

    You will also meet with a number of our Senior Managers and Executives and hear first-hand about their career development, aspirations for Premier Foods and specifically the departments they work in.

    This period will be followed by two weeks based in several of our manufacturing sites to understand our Supply Chain, Distribution, our products and the people who manufacture them.

    You will also spend time in our Research and Development department to understand our innovation processes, how we develop new products and have the opportunity to do some taste testing! This period will involve two weeks of overnight stays (funded by us) and is an excellent opportunity to socialise and form working relationships with other graduates who have joined the programme.

    After your manufacturing experience you will then work on a structured development programme which will include a mixture of project work, off-job training and on job shadowing.

    During this time you will continue to enjoy invaluable support from your peers and a business mentor.

    You are likely to have just graduated with a 2 : 1 degree from a good university and will have strong academics to support to this.

    Although a specific IT degree is not absolutely essential, a true desire to build a career in an IT environment will be a non negotiable requirement.

    The Role :

    The 2 year graduate programme will see you working across our teams. An initial focus will be a 6 month placement with our Service Teams (Eastleigh focus), c 1 year working project(s) within our IT Engagement team (St Albans based with visits to sites as project dictates) & 6 months with Technology / Development.

    Each team has an exciting agenda and the best fit will be assessed. In order to support development, the successful candidate must be prepared to stay overnight in hotels in other parts of the country in order to fulfil the requirements of assignment they are working on.

    Minimum Entry Requirements :

  • 3 A Levels minimum of 280 UCAS points gained
  • Degree qualified 2 : 1 minimum achieved (or expected)
  • Clear career aspirations demonstrated through employment or work experience / placement
  • The right to work in the UK and English speaking
  • UK driving licence
  • Experience of leadership roles across sports, hobbies or other interests
  • Strong Communicator both oral and written
  • Skilled in Microsoft Suite
