Job Overview

The successful candidate will be based in the Microbiology Department and will provide support to the Validation Microbiologist, Analytical Microbiologists and Technicians.

The placement will be for a minimum period of 1 moth and the applicant must be available to commence the placement at the start of July.

This placement will offer further training and career development in a fast-growing international company.

Main Activities / Tasks

The successful candidate will be required to support staff with the following tasks :

  • Collect and log samples received into the Laboratory log system.
  • Prepare fluids and agars required by all sections in the department.
  • Assist with preparation of media and equipment for autoclaving.
  • Completion of preparation sections of the media and diluting fluid records.
  • Assist with the loading of the autoclave in accordance with the correct Load Pattern.
  • Assist with unloading of media and transfer to storage shelves.
  • Recycle glassware.
  • Disposal of waste into correct containers.
  • Cleaning incubators / fridges as required.
  • Perform daily / weekly calibrations / verifications of balance, pH meters, pipettes and incubators and record the information on the correct results appendices as required.
  • Perform particle size testing on finished products and raw materials when required.
  • Assist in performing sub visible particulate testing in the cleanroom following the correct procedures.
  • Assist in performing bioburden testing in the laboratory following the correct procedures.
  • Download data loggers and carry out and initial assessment highlighting out of specification results.
  • Photocopy documents.
  • Clean containers and shelves on a regular basis and keep laboratory tidy.
  • Complete records accurately and completely.
  • Essential Criteria :

  • Have completed at least two years of Microbiology or related Science degree.
  • Have a basic knowledge of Microbiology.
  • Have GCSE passes in English and Mathematics.
  • Have previous experience in working in a Microbiology lab, media preparation and using an autoclave.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Be able to perform manual lifting and suit up to enter the Cleanroom.
  • Be available for a minimum of 1 month.
  • Desirable Criteria :

  • Have previous experience in an industrial Microbiology lab.
  • Have previous experience in the recipt of goods.
  • Analytical skills, the ability to evaluate, analyse and present data.
  • Duration : Full Time, Summer Placement - Minimum 1 Month
